PUBG Region Locking Is Now Being Tested

To say that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a hit would be a massive understatement. The title has set new records on Steam and continues to forge ahead as a darling of the gaming community. However, the title has been dealing with a hacker problem ever since its popularity surged. Many reports have connected the problems to the Chinese region which have led to requests for region locking from the community. The community will now be happy to know that developer PUBG Corp is “considering operating servers so that only those players who reside in that region can connect and play.”

It’s not like the developer hasn’t done much to clamp down on hackers. It has implemented ping-based matchmaking and even introduced new anti-cheat measures but the community remains adamant that region locking is the way to go.

Creator Brendan Greene has confirmed in a new Steam Community update that in a bid to provide an improved gameplay experience while clamping down on network issues and linguistic barriers, the developer is going to conduct a limit test of region locking before it decides whether or not it will implement PUBG region locking for the entire community.

There’s cause for cautious optimism here for the community as the latest update confirms that they have been heard but it remains to be seen whether or not PUBG region locking will become the norm going forward.

Apple’s Online Store Goes Offline Before Today’s Event

Whenever Apple’s online store goes down ahead of an event it’s usually an indication that new products are coming. Apple is going to conduct its education-focused “Field Trip” event later today and it has now taken its online store offline which suggests that reports about some new products just might be true.

Apple’s online store was taken down earlier today as the company prepares for its Field Trip event. If you visit the store now you’ll just find the “We’ll be back” message which has sort of become a tradition over the years whenever the company is gearing up to launch new devices later in the day.

Apple’s event today is going to begin at 11 am ET so assuming that the proceedings will last for an hour, we can expect the online store to be back by 12 pm ET. The new products that are announced during the event should then likely be featured on the website’s homepage.

As far as the new products are concerned, reports suggest that the company might launch two new iPads this year. It’s also expected to announce something related to the Apple Pencil owing to a hint in the event invite which gives the appearance that it was drawn using a pen.

Apple hasn’t confirmed anything related to its new devices as yet but we’ll find out for sure soon enough.

Waymo And Jaguar Introduce A Premium Self-Driving Electric Car

Waymo, the self-driving division of Google’s parent company Alphabet, today announced the launch of the world’s first premium fully self-driving all-electric car in partnership with Jaguar called I-PACE. The car has been built for Waymo’s self-driving taxi service and it blends Jaguar’s style with Waymo’s self-driving technology.

Waymo says that the all-electric I-PACE is a natural choice for the future of mobility which puts fully self-driving cars front and center. It’s a sleek SUV that’s said to be ideal for city driving. The battery capacity hasn’t been confirmed by Waymo says that it can “drive all day.”

The company is planning to up to 20,000 I-PACE SUVs to its self-driving taxi fleet in the next few years which will enable to drive a million trips on a typical day, according to Waymo. The fleet will thus be able to provide self-driving taxi services to many communities across the United States.

Resident Evil 7 Xbox One X Patch Released

Capcom had promised several months ago that it would release a patch for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard which would enable the title to take full advantage of the Xbox One X’s performance gains. The promised patch has now been released. The Resident Evil 7 Xbox One X upgrade will enable the title to render at a higher resolution than before and thus provide an improved experience to players.

Many had been wondering when the Resident Evil 7 Xbox One X patch would be released given that Capcom hadn’t really followed up on it after it first announced that one would be released. It hadn’t even said when we could expect it to arrive.

That changed earlier today when Capcom released the patch which will allow the title to take advantage of the Xbox One X’s additional power. It has released a trailer which compares the difference in visuals on the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X. You can easily notice the difference.

Aside from the enhanced clarity, the title will continue to run at 60 frames-per-second even though it’s rendering at a higher resolution now. Resident Evil 7 players can get their hands on this patch starting today. They’ll only be able to experience the improvements if they’re playing the title on the Xbox One X.

Microsoft Confirms Surface USB-C Dongle Will Be Released This Year

The lack of USB Type-C ports on the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop irked many customers who picked up these devices and Microsoft confirmed back then that it would release a Surface USB-C dongle to address the matter. The company hasn’t released one as yet but it wants customers to know that it hasn’t forgotten about it. Microsoft says that it’s going to release the USB-C dongle later this year.

Microsoft has previously promised to release the Surface USB-C dongle by the end of 2017 but that didn’t happen. The company is now promising to release the adaptor later this year.

A spokesperson for the company has confirmed that the USB-C dongle for Surface products is “on the roadmap for later this year.” No further details have been provided as yet so it’s too soon to say when we can expect it to arrive in 2018.

The dongle’s purpose will be to connect the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop to USB Type-C accessories. It will be plugged into the Surface Connector on these devices and will also enable users to charge a device with a Type-C charger or send data back and forth with a peripheral.

A purported image of this adapter has since been leaked online. It looks as dongle-like as you’d expect it to so no surprises there. It’s also unclear how much Microsoft’s Surface USB-C dongle will cost when it’s finally released.

Apple’s New 9.7 Inch iPad Has Apple Pencil Support

As expected, Apple has launched a new iPad at its educated-focused event today. The company’s online store had been taken down hours before the event which also suggested that a new product was on the horizon. The reports about this iPad have turned out to be true. The new product announced today is a 9.7 inch iPad with support for the Apple Pencil.

The new iPad is the successor to the 9.7 inch model it launched last year. There’s really not a lot of difference between the two as far as the display size and form factor are concerned. It looks almost identical to its predecessor.

Contrary to recent reports, the new iPad sticks with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the home button and doesn’t move to the Face ID facial recognition system that Apple debuted with the iPhone X last year and is expected to bring to iPads this year.

It’s powered by Apple’s A10 Fusion processor which promises to provide a 40 percent improvement in performance and 50 percent improvement in graphics performance. The cameras remain the same, it has an 8 megapixel rear camera and a FaceTime HD camera. Apple says that the battery life is good for ten hours.

It’s available for purchase starting today in silver, space gray, and gold colors. Apple will deliver it to customers later this week and that’s also when it will be available for purchase through its stores.

This is the first iPad outside Apple’s iPad Pro range to have support for the Apple Pencil. The stylus lets users draw on the tablet with pressure and tilt sensitivity. It remains an additional purchase priced at $99.

The new 9.7 inch iPad is available with 32GB of storage in Wi-Fi and LTE flavors for $329 and $459 respectively. Schools will be able to buy the Wi-Fi-only model for $299.
