If you grew up in the early days of computing, there might be a video game franchise called “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” (also known as Carmen Sandiego) that you might be familiar with. The franchise has been expanded to include a cartoon series and TV shows, and it looks like it will be getting its own live-action movie too.
This is according to a report from Deadline in which it has been reported that Netflix has acquired the rights to a live-action movie of the franchise. Carmen Sandiego will be played by Gina Rodriguez, who for those unfamiliar is in the show “Jane the Virgin” in which she won a Golden Globe award for.
The movie is said to be in its early stage and it is unclear who will be directing the movie or who will be penning its script. Also apart from Rodriguez, it was not mentioned who else might also be starring in the film. Also note that this is not the only Carmen Sandiego project that Netflix is working on
The live-action movie will be an extension of the brand in which Netflix is also producing an animated series based on the character, and Rodriguez will also be voicing the main character. In any case we suppose it will probably be a while before we see anything, so fans of the franchise will just have to remain patient.

Fake news is a problem and while cutting off the source is obviously a good way to start, it would simply be impossible as anyone with a blog or social media account can simply post it again. This means that another way to go about dealing it would be to deal directly with the people spreading the misinformation.
In a report from The Wall Street Journal (via Engadget), the Malaysian government has recently proposed a law in which it would make the spreading of fake news illegal. Those who are caught spreading news, information, or data that is wholly or partly false will be subject to up to 10 years in prison and a fine of RM500,000 (~$128,165).
Malaysia is not the first country to try and curb misinformation. For example over in India, it was proposed that even group admins of WhatsApp group chats could be held accountable for the spreading of fake news even if it did not necessarily come directly from them. Tech companies such as Facebook and Google have also been trying to do their part in preventing the spreading of false information.
The bill has yet to be passed and the law has yet to come into effect as it is still pending approval from both houses in parliament, but The Wall Street Journal expects it to be approved ahead of the country’s upcoming elections.

While Xiaomi might be known for their smartphones, the company has recently started to get into computers as well and has launched a couple of laptops in the past. However it looks like launching a regular laptop isn’t enough because Xiaomi has decided to get into the gaming scene by launching the Mi Gaming Laptop.
The name pretty much says it all and based on the image above, it looks like your standard fare gaming laptop. This means that under the hood it will pack some serious specs, serious enough for gamers to take their gaming on the go. It will feature an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 160 GPU, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage, 1TB of hard drive storage, and will be powered by Intel’s Kaby Lake Core i7-7700 HQ processor.
There will also be cheaper options offered with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU and 8GB of RAM with a 128GB SSD. However what’s odd is that for a gaming laptop, the computer will only sport a 15.6-inch Full HD display. We’re not sure what’s up with that, but it is possible that Xiaomi is hoping to keep it powerful but still somewhat affordable.
Other features include Dolby Atmos tuned speakers, four USB 3.0 ports, two USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack along with a high-powered amp. As for pricing, the top of the line model will retail for around $1,440 while the lower end model will be priced at $960. That being said, this might not be Xiaomi’s only gaming ambition as we have been hearing rumors about a gaming smartphone in the work.
