It’s unclear exactly how ― or if ― a ban is going to play out.
While recent rumors are suggesting that the HTC U12+ might be HTC’s only flagship smartphone for 2018, it doesn’t mean that HTC won’t crank out low or mid-rangers as well. In fact we might have an idea of what the HTC U12 Life could look like, thanks to a recent tweet by Evan Blass.
According to Blass, it seems that the HTC U12 Life might be adopting the notch design. This notch design was popularized by Apple’s iPhone X in which in the case of Apple, the notch was used to house the components for the TrueDepth camera system which facilitates Face ID. Some have criticized the design of the iPhone X, saying that it is very un-Apple like of them to include the notch. Other reviews claim that the notch barely becomes noticeable after a while.
If you thought that HTC was sidestepping the notch trend…think again. Apparently midrange U12 Life gets its notch on.

Regardless of whether you like it or not, more phone manufacturers seem to be hopping on that bandwagon, with the HTC U12 Life possibly being the next. At the moment is unclear as to what the phone could look like, although it seems that last month HTC might have given the public a sneak peek when they tried to disguise their phones at an event.
In any case we’ll have to wait and see when HTC does get around to announcing it, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more details which will hopefully be coming in the near future.

The Android platform is open source (though more like open source dump) and there’s no way to close that door anymore. Google, however, has found a way around it through its oh so essential Google Play apps and services. While OEMs had to comply with Google’s rules and certification requirements to officially ship with these, some have found ways around … Continue reading

Foxconn is a name that some might think of when it comes to manufacturing iPhones. Belkin on the other hand is a brand that some might associate with smartphone accessories, such as cables, cases, chargers and so on. Now it looks like both companies will be one, or to be more specific, Foxconn will be acquiring Belkin.
Now Belkin is a brand that is more than just about accessories. Under its umbrella, Belkin also plays home to other brands such as WeMo and also Linksys who makes routers, which means that this acquisition for Foxconn will no doubt help to expand its portfolio and offerings to end-consumers.
The deal has been reported to be worth $866 million and according to Chet Pipkin, CEO and founder of Belkin, “We see significant synergies with FIT, including leveraging its world-class manufacturing capability to enhance Belkin’s operating efficiency and competitiveness. The transaction also grants us access to more resources to invest in our people and to aggressively pursue opportunities in the marketplace.”
For those who are worried about what this means for future products, you can rest assured because according to Belkin’s press release, the company and its brands are expected to continue operating as per usual. That being said, the acquisition has yet to be approved and given the US government’s apparent wariness of Chinese companies, we’re not sure if it will go through, but we’ll have to wait and see.

When Apple Pay launched in Japan, one of the features is that it allowed users to turn their phones into a Suica pass. For those unfamiliar, Suica is one of several transit card systems that is used in Japan. By turning your iPhone into a Suica pass, it means that users don’t need to worry about bring their card around as long as they have their phone.
It proved to be extremely popular where users rushed to sign up when it was launched, causing the system to overload. Unfortunately it looks like its problems have yet to come to an end because in a report from local blog Ata Distance (via AppleInsider), there appears to be an issue with the iPhone X in which a bug is causing Apple Pay problems which in turn affects the Suica.
Users are claiming that after they have upgraded to the iPhone X, they are noticing some compatibility problems with the Suica Express Transit, an NFC-enabled system operated by JR East. Customers are complaining of slow response times while others are claiming it is outright unusable.
It is unclear if this is a hardware or software problem, but some customers have gotten lucky by exchanging their phones for new ones. Others who weren’t as lucky were denied replacements and were instead told that they were holding their phones wrong. It is unclear if Apple is aware of the issue as Ata Distance claims to have been tracking the problem for months already.

Google’s products and services are used by a lot of people on a daily basis and it is one of the appeals of using Android because these services are integrated better compared to on iOS. Google knows this which is why they usually have a set of requirements that phone makers have to meet in order to be able to preload these apps on their devices.
However it seems that Google is about to make things a little harder. Prior to this, phone makers who did not submit their request or have their request denied could still preload these apps, but it looks like Google is changing that where they will verify a device first. If a device has not been verified, they will then block Google’s apps from running on that handset.
While this is good news as it means better control over quality and ensuring compatibility, this has presented a problem to users who run custom ROMs. Given that custom ROMs have nightly builds, it makes it difficult for Google’s apps to run on them. However thankfully Google is aware of this and is providing a whitelist to users to submit their Android ID so that Google apps can run on that ROM, something to take into consideration if you’re having problems running Google apps.

Streaming video games used to be something that was scoffed at. After all wouldn’t it be better to play the game rather than watch someone else play it? Clearly that has changed over the years, and in fact if there is evidence to prove that gaming videos are here to stay, Epic Games’ Fortnite Battle Royale might have done just that.
In a tweet by Ryan Wyatt who leads YouTube Gaming, he claims that Fortnite has managed to set the record for having the most gaming video uploads on YouTube in a single month. His tweet doesn’t mention exactly how many videos we are talking about, but it clearly has made an impact.
How big is @FortniteGame on YouTube? Fortnite holds the record for the most videos related to a video game uploaded in a single month EVER. Yesterday, the Battle Royale tournament had over 42M live views, and set a record for biggest single live gaming stream @ 1.1M concurrent.
— Ryan Wyatt (@Fwiz) March 26, 2018
His tweet also mentions the Fortnite tournament that had 42 million live videos, and holds the record for concurrent views at 1.1 million. While Fortnite isn’t a new game per se, its release on mobile has no doubt generated a ton of buzz. The game is said to have raked in $1.5 million in its first four days of release on iOS, and this is not counting the fact that it has yet to be released on Android.
We expect the game will get even more popular as time goes on and we can also probably look forward to more gaming videos, especially with Epic fast-tracking live recording features.
