OnePlus 6 Ceramic Back Is A Possibility

OnePlus has been teasing bits and pieces of information about its upcoming handset as the company will soon be launching the OnePlus 6 officially. While it has yet to properly unveil the device, the company has revealed some details about the handset and offers some hints too one of which recently suggested that this might be the company’s first water-resistant device. Another hint that it has dropped recently suggests that the OnePlus 6 may have a ceramic back.

The official Twitter account for OnePlus India tweeted an image with the caption “Same expert craftsmanship, new materials.” The attached image reveals that the next handset is going to have a “Designed by OnePlus” inscription at the back.

The hint at new materials suggests that the handset could have a ceramic back even though this isn’t something that has been expressly revealed by OnePlus itself just yet. OnePlus also hasn’t revealed so far when it expects to formally launch the OnePlus 6.

What the company has revealed so far is that the handset is going to have a display notch much like the iPhone X and following criticism from the fanbase, the company has decided to allow users to hide the notch through a post-launch software update.

Twitter Will No Longer Accept Ads From Russia’s Kaspersky Lab

Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab, best known for its antivirus products, will no longer be able to run ads on Twitter, the micro-blogging network has confirmed. Twitter has decided to ban ads from Kaspersky Lab as the latter’s business model conflicts with advertising rules, according to Twitter, and also cites claims of the U.S. government that Kaspersky has links to Russian intelligence agencies, a charge that Kaspersky has denied vehemently many times in the past.

It has long been claimed by U.S. agencies that Kaspersky Lab has close links to Moscow’s intelligence agencies and that its software might actually aid Russia’s spying efforts. The Trump administration has already banned Kaspersky’s products from being used on U.S. government networks.

That’s not a charge that the company has taken lightly, though, and it has even offered to show its code so that independent experts can look at it and decide whether or not any exploits have been left in it for Russian intelligence agencies.

Kaspersky Lab co-founder Eugene Kaspersky disclosed the ban earlier this week adding that the company was first told about this ban back in January. Twitter has since confirmed the ban in an email to Reuters.

Kaspersky added in the blog post that he was taken by surprise when Twitter decided to ban the company from running ads. “We haven’t violated any written – or unwritten – rules, and our business model is quite simply the same template business model that’s used throughout the whole cybersecurity industry: We provide users with products and services, and they pay us for them,” he added.

“This decision is based on our determination that Kaspersky Lab operates using a business model that inherently conflicts with acceptable Twitter Ads business practices,” the microblogging network said in its statement.

Samsung Reportedly Interested In Acquiring Nokia Health As Well

Nokia bolstered its health division with the acquisition of Withings in 2016 but it appears that the company feels that the division is weighing it down. An internal memo was leaked recently which revealed that Nokia doesn’t see a path forward for its digital health business and reports now suggest that it’s looking to sell this division. Google is believed to be interested and a new report claims that Samsung wants to pick it up as well.

Le Monde reports that Samsung is one of the four companies that are interested in acquiring Nokia health. The others include Google and two French companies.

Nokia purchased Withings for $192 million but it seems like the company is going to have to book a loss on this deal. According to the report, the takeover hasn’t been a success and whoever ends up buying the division from Nokia is likely going to pay less than what Nokia did in 2016.

Samsung and Google will both be good homes for the division as they already have a portfolio of connected devices. The former is particularly involved in the digital health market as it sells a range of smartwatches and fitness-tracking activity bands.

No word as yet, though, from Nokia about a final deal.

AT&T’s New Live TV Streaming Service Will Cost $15

AT&T Tower
Many companies have launched their own online TV streaming services over the past couple of years and AT&T is one of them. It launched DirecTV Now back in 2016 but if it feels a bit too expensive for your taste, you will be interested in knowing that the company is now working on another online TV streaming service called AT&T Watch is going to be relatively cheaper as the subscription cost will be $15 per month.

The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson revealed the new service in his comments during the company’s antitrust court hearing concerning its acquisition of Time Warner. He didn’t really reveal a lot of details about this new service, though, so it’s not known how many channels will be offered for $15 per month and what add-ons subscribers might be able to purchase if they wanted to have access to more channels.

While Stephenson didn’t mention which platforms AT&T Watch is going to support, he did add that it won’t have any sports channels in the lineup, which rules out sports fans as possible subscribers.

The success of this service will really depend on the kinds of channels that subscribers will get for the price of $15 per month, unfortunately, AT&T hasn’t revealed any information about that just yet. It’s also yet to confirm precisely when this service is going to be launched.

Flickr Has Been Sold To SmugMug

Flickr was acquired by Yahoo in 2005 for $35 million but the former’s fate has been up in the air following Yahoo’s acquisition by Verizon in 2017 for $4.5 billion. It was combined with AOL in Oath and since then it has been unclear what Verizon was planning to do with Flickr. It turns out, not much. Flickr has been sold to professional photo hosting service SmugMug. USA Today reports that SmugMug has purchased Flickr for an undisclosed price.

“Flickr has survived through thick-and-thin and is core to the entire fabric of the Internet,” SmugMug CEO Don MacAskill told the scribe. “We’re thrilled for these two brands to come together to grow their photo sharing communities and continue to innovate for their members,” Oath said in a statement provided to USA Today.

Be that as it may, Yahoo wasn’t really able to capture the interest of the average user for Flickr and for the longest time it remained a favorite of those who were really interested in photography. The average user stuck to their Instagrams and Snapchats despite multiple redesigns and feature additions to Flickr by Yahoo.

MacAskill has promised the Flickr community that their beloved service won’t be going away and that Flickr will be maintained as a standalone community that’s separate from SmugMug.
