It seems that in order to comply with new regulations being introduced in Europe, a report from Sky News has revealed that one of the changes that WhatsApp will be making is a new requirement for its users to be at least 16 before using their app. Prior to this and for the most part with regards to online services, it requires users to be at least 13 years old.
However these changes mean that WhatsApp (and presumably other companies) will now need to raise the bar to 16. Now in the past it was easy for users under a certain age to access websites and content meant for an older crowd just by clicking, “Yes I am over 18”, so it is unclear as to how WhatsApp will require users to verify their age.
The confusion only grows as WhatsApp claims that they will not be asking for any new rights to collect personal information in the agreement, which means that verification of a user’s age might simply be to ask if they are at least 16 or older without any hard proof required. Alternatively it could be that WhatsApp could do what Facebook does for its younger users, where Facebook will require users to nominate a parent/guardian to give permission for them to share information on the platform.

Instagram’s Stories has come a long way from when it was first launched. It used to be that users were limited to uploading media that was taken less than 24 hours ago, but that changed. Now in another update to its Stories feature, Instagram is allowing users to upload multiple photos and/or videos at once.
According to Instagram, “You’ll now be able to upload multiple photos and videos to your story all at once. Whether you want to preview your entire story to make sure it’s just right or you’re waiting for a strong connection to upload all of your photos and videos from the day, it’s now faster and easier than ever to share to your story after the moment has passed.”
Prior to this, users could only upload one photo or video at a time, which for those who are avid posters of Stories means having to go back and forth to the upload screen multiple times. However this update could cut help down all that unnecessary time spent doing that. Users will also be able to edit every single Story frame and preview them before uploading them as well.
These changes should already be live for Android users but according to Instagram, iOS users will have to wait for the update which should be available in the coming weeks.

Switches installed on our walls allow us to control various things around the home, like the air conditioning, lights, alarm system, sound, and so on. However it seems that researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Disney Research Pittsburgh are exploring the idea that what if we turned our walls into gigantic switches instead?
In a recently presented research paper, the researchers explore the idea of making our walls touch-sensitive. They have even gone as far as creating a prototype called Wall++ that will be capable of tracking touch, gestures, sense nearby bodies, and also detect and locate nearby appliances (which presumably could then be turned on/off via the wall).
Such an endeavor already sounds expensive, but that’s another area that the researchers were looking at in which they wanted to find an inexpensive way to do this. To that end they tested a variety of conductive paints, decided on how to best apply them, whether or not a topcoat was necessary, and so on.
This is an interesting project where the researchers imagine that the Wall++ could ultimately end up acting as a giant control interface, which like we mentioned earlier could be used to control the gadgets in our home. Imagine swiping any part of the wall to turn lights on and off, or double tapping to open the blinds, and so on. However given that this is currently only a proof-of-concept, we imagine it might be a while before we start seeing it in more homes.

Our smartphones are mostly made up of screens, at least on the front. That’s especially true with today’s trend of nearly bezel-less displays. So it’s only natural that smartphone makers put a great deal of effort into making and promoting their panels. Take for example the upcoming LG G7 ThinQ and its Super Bright Display, promised to be brighter, denser, … Continue reading
