Amazon Teases Upcoming ‘Fire TV Cube’ On Its Website

Last year it was rumored that Amazon had more Fire TV devices in the works and now thanks to the folks at AFTVNews, it looks like one of them might have been revealed in the form of the Amazon Fire TV Cube. This information was discovered on Amazon’s email subscription page where users were greeted by a splash page that revealed the existence of the device.

Not much is known about the device at the moment, save for the image that AFTVNews obtained, which as the name already implied is a cube-shaped Fire TV device. It is unclear if this image is the real deal, but its design does seem to be in line with other Amazon products that have been launched so far.

It is also unclear as to what kind of features we might be able to expect from it, but the button featuring a microphone does seem to suggest that maybe Alexa could be built into the device which presumably would allow voice control over media playback, along with all the other functions that Alexa can already do.

Amazon’s sign-up page doesn’t reveal more information, but considering the fact that it is still up and has yet to be taken down seems to hint that maybe an official announcement could be around the corner.

Instagram’s ‘Data Download’ Tool is Now Live

A couple of weeks ago it was reported that Instagram was working on a feature that let users download their photos and videos and profile information. This is handy for those who are looking to backup their Instagram data should their accounts get hacked, the service eventually comes to an end, or if they simply want to get off social media completely.

The good news is that if you were looking forward to this tool, you might be interested to learn that TechCrunch has reported that the Data Download tool is now live and can be accessed via Instagram’s website here. Note that the tool is only available via web for now, but Instagram has confirmed to the publication that they are working on rolling it out to iOS and Android, but basically it should be accessible via desktop or mobile, depending on your personal preference.

According to Instagram, “We’ll email you a link to a file with your photos, comments, profile information and more. We can only work on one request from your account at a time, and it may take up to 48 hours to collect this data and send it to you.” Profile information will contain information like the usernames of your followers, people you follow, direct messages, and more. It will also work with archived Stories but only those posted after December 2017.

Spotify Launches Its New Free Music Streaming Tier

It was reported that Spotify was planning a new free tier of its music streaming platform. The company already has a free tier that is supported by ads and limits users in what they can do, which in turn encourages them to purchase a subscription to the premium tier that unlocks everything and removes ads.

However if you insist on continuing to use Spotify’s free tier, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the rumors were true as Spotify’s new free tier has been launched. One of the features that was limited in the previous tier was on-demand listening, but that has changed somewhat with the new tier as Spotify is introducing on-demand playlists, where users can pick and choose songs in curated playlists.

Spotify is also getting more personalized where according to the company, “When you sign up, we’ll ask you about the artists you love, and we’ll deliver curated playlists that match your musical taste and personalized playlists, like Daily Mix. These new playlists are easily accessible on the new Home screen, which is always being updated based on your listening activity.”

There will also be a Data Saver function where as the name implies, will result in less data being consumed while streaming. These changes should already be live so if you’re a free Spotify user then it could be worth checking out.
