Trust in autonomous cars is falling

Trust in autonomous vehicles has faded among American drivers, new research suggests, with recent crashes and other incidents blamed for souring potential riders on the developing technology. While a number of companies have closed trials underway involving driverless cars, the general expectation among automakers and others is that it won’t be until 2020 or later before services begin to take … Continue reading

ASUS To Ship Its $2,000 4K HDR 144Hz G-Sync Monitor Next Month

Acer first announced its Predator X27 G-Sync monitor last year and finally started taking pre-orders for it about a week ago. Now, ASUS has thrown its hat in the ring as well by confirming that its 4K HDR 144Hz G-Sync monitor will begin shipping next month. It has been a long wait for those who were interested in picking up this monitor when it was first announced. ASUS actually demonstrated the ROG Swift PG27UQ monitor back in January last year.

The company launched it in January as the industry’s first 4K HDR gaming display with a 144Hz refresh rate. It’s based on AU Optronics’ AHVA panel with 3840×2160 and the company claims that it’s the first monitor with DisplayHDR 1000 certification.

The monitor also features NVIDIA’s G-Sync HDR variable refresh rate technology which allows for smoother gameplay. All of this is packed behind a 27 inch IPS panel in a sleek body.

As you can probably imagine, this monitor doesn’t come cheap. It’s priced similar to the Acer Predator X27 that’s now available for pre-order for $1,999. ASUS has also decided to price its 4K HDR 144Hz G-Sync monitor at $1,999.

The company says that the ROG Swift PG27UQ will be available for purchase in late June. Those who have been waiting for it can finally start counting down the days until they can pick one up.

Regulators Propose Visible License Plates On Drones In The Future

When drone owners register their drones with the FAA, they’ll get a government-issued ID number that they can then put on the drone or inside the drone for identification purposes in the future. However the only problem with that is that you only know the drone’s identification when you have it in your hands.

This presents a problem in which authorities cannot ID the drones just by looking at it. However according to a report from Bloomberg, that could change as US aviation regulators have proposed that drones in the future need to come equipped with a visible license plate, similar to that of a car.

This means that at a distance and with some equipment like binoculars, authorities should be able to ID the drone remotely to check whether or not it is registered. “This action would require small unmanned aircraft owners to display the unique identifier assigned by the FAA upon completion of the registration process on an external surface of the aircraft. Small unmanned aircraft owners would no longer be permitted to enclose the unique identifier in a compartment.”

It is unclear as to what might have prompted this proposal, but given that there are still issues of drones being used illegally and flown into restricted air spaces, making drone owners more accountable will hopefully curb that.
