Doctor Strange definitely needs this NERF blaster – a gun that generates animated spells out of thin air. This truly is wizardry. This cool hack comes from a Japanese cosplayer, and it is able to achieve the effect by using a spinning LED wand. So even though wizards don’t need guns, now wizard guns are a thing.
The seemingly floating images are created using an effect called persistence of vision. This basically means that the human eye holds onto images for a split second longer than light rays are actually hitting the retina. This is what allows us to interpret the images flashing across the pixels on a screen as moving video, instead of just a slideshow. It’s a really slick effect.
At the end of this customized NERF blaster is a 3D-printed adapter holding a Phantom 3D LED wand. As the wand spins, the LEDs along its length flash in specifically-timed patterns to fool the human eye into seeing 360-degree animations. Make sure you check out the end of the video, where the modder reveals some of the software they used to create the animated spells.
Sadly there’s no way to download those spells so you will have to consult a spellbook.
One of the important parts of the eye that allows humans to see is the outer layer known as the cornea. That part of the eye has a key role in focusing. For people with cornea problems, the only hope of clear vision is a cornea transplant from a donor, which are hard to come by. Researchers have now been … Continue reading
LG has a very odd strategy this year. It delayed the launch of its flagship phone, the LG G7 ThinQ but has littered the market with LG V30 variants. And, not so surprisingly, it wasn’t done yet. It just announced the LG V35 ThinQ, whose spec sheet looks eerily familiar. Compared to the V30 and V30S ThinQ, it’s definitely an … Continue reading
For smartphones without home buttons, face unlocking has become a necessary and ostensibly more secure method for preventing unauthorized access. The iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 have adopted the technology, but it turns out there’s a way to cheat…
The smartphone arena is seeing more and more bezel-less contenders, as tech giants battle it out with their own version of what an all-screen phone means. According to Lenovo’s Weibo page, the company is joining the fray very soon: the Z5 smartphone…
It has only been a couple of days since NVIDIA started rolling out the much-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for the SHIELD TV. Since the update was being rolled out in phases, it hadn’t arrived for all users as yet and those who didn’t get it will now have to wait for a bit longer because NVIDIA has decided to halt the rollout of the Oreo update for this device due to “a couple of issues.”
The SHIELD TV Android Oreo update brings a new user interface for the device which features a revamped main screen that offers a lot of customization options. Some new shortcuts were added to the system as well through this update.
There were plenty of improvements in this update but apparently, some bugs remained which have pushed NVIDIA to stop the release. A tech support rep on the GeForce forums confirmed that the firmware update is no longer being rolled out.
The rep doesn’t offer much detail about the issues in question but some reports suggest that users have been experiencing unexplained disconnections from Wi-Fi networks.
“We’ve uncovered a couple issues thanks to feedback from our preview program that we’d like to fix prior to rolling out SHIELD TV Experience Upgrade 7.0 to more users,” the rep said, adding that the company is actively working to resolve the issues and hopes to restart the roll out in the near future.

Nobody really uses film cameras anymore, not unless they’re a photography enthusiast. There’s really no need to, given that you can now get a digital camera in a cell phone that costs less than $100. It won’t be anything to write home about, but at least it will let you take basic photos and video. Canon stopped making film cameras nearly a decade ago but since it had old stock lying in warehouses, the company continued selling them. The company has now confirmed that sales of its film cameras are now ending for good.
That being said, film cameras are still much loved by photography enthusiasts even though you won’t find the average user spending their money on one. They will much prefer the convenience that digital cameras offer.
The EOS-1V was Canon’s last film SLR camera and the company had been selling it from old stock. It appears to have run out now as the company says that it has finally decided to end sales of the film SLR EOS-1V.
Those who wanted to purchase one will not be able to get one new but they will be available in used condition. Canon has also said that it will continue to service the camera until 2025 so fans of this series have ample time to work with the camera before the company also stops repairing them.
