It’s time to say goodbye to Best Buy’s game subscription services which includes the retailer’s Gamers Club Unlocked program. It offered discounts on new gamers for customers through this program and some additional incentives. Customers had to sign up for the program and pay an annual fee but that will no longer be necessary as this program is being shut down.
Best Buy had originally priced Gamers Club Unlocked at $99.99 for a two-year membership but later decided to slash the price to $29.99 in March 2015. The membership provided customers with a 20 percent discount on new games, pre-orders included, and additional incentives such as better credits for trade-ins.
Gamers would have taken considerable advantage of this program as the low membership fee meant that if they diligently picked up new games, they could recoup the cost of their membership quickly.
The retailer has sent a memo to employees which surfaced on Twitter. The memo confirms that this program is going to be shut down, both its free and paid tiers. No new members will now be accepted into the Gamers Club Unlocked program. All existing members will be able to take advantage of the benefits that they are entitled to until their membership runs out. Once that happens, renewal will not be an option.

If recent reports are anything to go by, Xiaomi has been working on a new flagship smartphone. The company has a habit of launching a new flagship Mi handset in February every year but it didn’t do that. Xiaomi launched an updated Mi Mix 2 instead which it called the Mi Mix 2S. However, recent report have pointed toward an impending flagship launch from Xiaomi and the company has now sent out invites to confirm that the Xiaomi Mi 8 will be officially launched on May 31st.
Xiaomi’s event invite confirms that this handset is going to be called the Mi 8 Anniversary Edition. That’s to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the brand. The invite has been sent out in China where the event will take place on May 31st.
Since the Mi 8 will be a flagship device, it’s expected to feature a 6.01-inch bezel-less OLED display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip. It may also feature a 4,000mAh battery and 3D facial recognition. Some reports have even suggested that the device is also going to be the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
No word as yet on how much this device is going to cost and which markets other than China will get the Xiaomi Mi 8.
