Nintendo Reportedly Banning Players Who Hacked Their Switches

Consoles these days are harder to hack than before, although in recent times we have been hearing reports of users who have successfully hacked their Nintendo Switch console. However if hacking your Switch is something you might be interested in, you should probably think twice.

This is because it appears that Nintendo is going after hackers of the Switch and banning them from their online services. It is unclear as to how many players have been affected, but at least one hacker, Shiny Quagsire, has been banned. For those unfamiliar, Shiny Quagsire is a prominent member in the Switch homebrew scene.

However what’s interesting about his tweet is that the restrictions applied to him were on a Switch console that was not hacked. This suggests that Nintendo might have traced Nintendo accounts/devices that are associated with him, including the ones that weren’t hacked, indicating that they are serious about it.

It doesn’t seem that Nintendo plans on unbanning his account anytime soon, which means that all his console is good for is playing games and checking out the news. The restrictions also mean that he will no longer be able to access the eShop, online gaming, and other social related activities. However like we said, it is unclear how many hackers/modders have been affected, but maybe think twice if you were considering modding your Switch.

Super Smash Bros For The Switch Could Get New Characters

A couple of months ago much to the delight of gamers, Nintendo officially announced Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo Switch. However the announcement lacked details, such as what the roster of the game could look like. However the trailer did reveal that characters from Splatoon could be part of the lineup, but it seems that there is more.

According to reputable leakster Vergeben (via Nintendo Life), it seems that the upcoming game could feature Ridley from Metroid, Ice Climbers, and Castlevania’s Simon Belmont. It should be noted that Ice Climbers have appeared in previous incarnations of the game, such as Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl, but skipped the Wii U version of the game, but it looks like it could be making a return for the Switch if the rumors are true.

However as Nintendo Life has pointed out, Ridley’s inclusion is questionable. This is because in the past, series head Masahiro Sakurai did not seem particularly positive about the inclusion of the character in the game, despite him being one of the more requested characters over the past few years.

In any case with Super Smash Bros being playable at E3 2018, hopefully we’ll have more details then. In the meantime Microsoft has stated that they wouldn’t mind seeing characters Banjo and Kazooie make an appearance in the game.

Uber Launches Taxi-Hailing Pilot Program In Japan

Due to Japan’s laws against ride-sharing services and also due to the ease and fairness of Japan’s taxi system, it’s not surprising that Uber has had a hard time trying to crack the Japanese market. However it seems that Uber might have finally caught a break and has launched a new program in the country, although not necessarily in the capacity you might think.

Uber has recently been approved by the Japanese government to launch a taxi-hailing pilot program. As the name suggests, this isn’t the traditional Uber setup which involves regular people picking passengers up. Instead it will see Uber team up with 20 local taxi companies to provide rides to customers who request them.

The pilot program will be initially limited to Awaji and is expected to last through March 2019. Uber already operates in Japan, albeit in a limited capacity and also via UberEats which provides takeaway delivery service in four Japanese cities. According to Brooks Entwistle, Uber’s Chief International Business Officer, “As we join forces with local taxi companies and the Awaji district administration office, we will work together to enrich the product offerings of what will be the first initiative of its kind in Japan to meet the local needs.”

In a way it is a bit ironic as Uber in most parts of the world that it operates in has replaced the need for taxis, which for some markets can be expensive and also scammy, so for them to work with taxi companies in Japan is an interesting choice.
