Not all smartphone face unlock features are created equal. Android has long had such a basic feature and so did Windows 10. Apple’s Face ID, however, introduced a new level of sophistication, not to mention marketing, that may have made consumers presume that every device advertising “face ID” features would offer the same security and accuracy. As the recent OnePlus … Continue reading

With Facebook Messenger and Gmail support peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, we suppose it was only a matter of time before it came to WhatsApp as well. We have been hearing about the company’s plans since at least last year, but the good news is that the feature could be launching as soon as next week.
However before you get too excited, it seems that WhatsApp’s P2P payments feature could be limited to India at launch. The system will use an UPI-based service and will be working with several banks in India to process the payments, which includes HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank. We wouldn’t be surprised if the feature eventually made its way to other parts of the world, but as we have seen with regards to payments services, it can sometimes take a while to get financial institutions from various countries to come on board.
According to the report, WhatsApp was apparently waiting to get at least four major banks on board before launching the service, but ultimately decided to go ahead with it anyway as they felt that their rivals were already ahead of them. The feature has actually been spotted in the beta for Android but the launch next week should make it available to all (it is unclear if the feature will launch on iOS at the same time).

Apple’s approach to music has always been from a “reseller” perspective, in which they sell ready-made songs on iTunes or stream it via Apple Music. This is a very typical approach for pretty much all music streaming services we’re seeing today, but it looks like Apple wants a bigger slice of the pie.
According to a report from Music Business Worldwide, it looks like Apple is getting into the music publishing game where it will be led by Elena Segal, who was previously Apple’s Legal Director of iTunes International. Her new role will make her Apple Music’s Global Director of Music Publishing.
For those unfamiliar with what music publishing is about, basically the music industry is split into two: the record labels and the publishers. Labels tend to handle the actual artists, while publishers will deal with who writes the songs, such as lyricists, composers, and so on. According to the report, Apple’s music publishing division will include Operations, Commercial, Publisher Relations, and A&R (which is essentially the scouting of talent).
With Apple creating their own music publishing division, this means that they can sign songwriters and composers in which any music that they license out has the potential to bring in revenue via royalties. This means that Apple no longer needs to rely on Apple Music subscriptions in order to generate revenue on the music front.

It would appear that SEGA is working on a new Sonic racing game, at least according to a leak by Walmart which revealed the game earlier than expected. For those who are wondering about it, wonder no more because SEGA has since officially announced the game via the release of a teaser trailer.
Note that this isn’t the first racing game released by SEGA that features Sonic. The company had many years ago released Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing which featured Sonic and other characters from various SEGA franchises. We expect that this will be more or less the same in concept so if you enjoyed the previous titles, then this should be of interest to you as well.
The game will allow players to play multiplayer against each other, or they can form teams of three where players will be able to assist each other to take out their rivals. There will items that players can pick up that they can use for defending or attacking, and there will also be customization options for their vehicles.
Team Sonic Racing will be launching on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the PC this winter, but no mention as to whether or not there will be support for cross-platform play, but here’s hoping that it will!

Once the only way to protect accounts, be they online or offline, passwords are now seen more as a liability than an ally. Everyone’s out to kill it, from Apple to Microsoft to, now, Google. The rollout of the Chrome browser version 67 went almost under the radar. That, however, belies what’s inside this feature packed release, which includes the … Continue reading

It’s safe to say that Nintendo kind of kicked off this recent trend of relaunching older consoles as they have done with the NES and SNES Classics. This spurred other companies to do the same, such as Atari who announced the Atari VCS back in 2017. The good news is that if you liked what you saw, you’ll be pleased to learn that pre-orders are now live as promised.
Atari is currently taking pre-orders via Indiegogo which for those unfamiliar is a crowdfunding platform. It seems that Atari’s initial goal of raising $100,000 has since been surpassed ever since it launched and is now sitting at close to $2 million at this time of writing. With a month left in its campaign, it’s safe to say that there is a very good chance it will cross the $2 million mark and who knows, maybe even hit $3 million.
The console is priced at various price points, but for those who want everything which includes the console, the joystick, and the gamepad, it will set you back $319. There are options where you can buy the console by itself, or the joystick and gamepad separately, so it’s up to customers to decide.
Now we did say that the Atari VCS seems to be following in Nintendo’s footsteps of re-releasing classic consoles, but to be fair the Atari VCS is a brand new console (inspired by the Atari 2600) except that it will run classic Atari games that have been preloaded onto it. It will also feature some modern technology such as the ability to go online, use voice command, stream videos, and the best part is that the content on the console isn’t fixed.
This is because the Atari VCS was built on an open source Linux OS, which means that more software and features can be added in the future.
