Ride hailing services using cars is pretty common in many parts of the world, but in some parts of the world, such as Southeast Asia, ride hailing services using motorcycles is also common. Take for example over in Thailand where instead of regular taxis, you can also flag down motorcycle taxis which are cheaper and faster as they get to zip in between cars.
Now according to a report from The Information (paywall; via Fortune), it seems that Lyft could be considering a scooter service in the US. The report claims that a local consulting firm that represents Lyft has approached San Francisco transportation officials in recent weeks, inquiring about applying permits for electric scooters.
However instead of it following a similar model to Lyft’s ride hailing service, these electric scooters are meant to be rented out to riders who need to get to their locations, meaning that it will act more as an alternative to taking the bus, train, taxi, or driving your car. It sounds like an interesting idea although it is similar to already-existing bike services, except that on a scooter there is the potential to move around faster.
That being said, there could be some hurdles to overcome with this service, namely it will require Lyft to show the authorities that they can educate users on how to properly park scooters so that they don’t block sideways, and also how to lock them to bike racks, and so on. This means that it might be a while before we see such a service launch, if at all, so until then take it with a grain of salt.

If you were looking for a new monitor, one that features NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology, then you might be interested to learn that Acer has started to take pre-orders for its Predator X27 monitor. Now if this sounds familiar to you, it is because the monitor was actually announced back in 2017.
Acer back then did not mention when it would be launched, but it seems that more than a year later it is finally available for purchase. Unfortunately in terms of pricing, the Predator X27 will not come cheap with a price tag of $1,999. However it is a feature-packed monitor so if you have the cash to splash, it could be worth your consideration.
For starters we’re looking at a 27-inch display with a 4K resolution. It also sports a 144Hz refresh rate and a brightness that peaks at 1,000 nits. There is also full 10-bit support and support for the wide DCI-P3 color gamut, and a 4ms response time. Like we said, it will also feature NVIDIA’s G-Sync HDR technology.
For those unfamiliar with G-Sync (and AMD’s FreeSync) technology, it is basically a hardware answer to software features such as v-sync. It attempts to match the refresh rate of the game to the monitor which in turn prevents issues like screen tearing, resulting in a potentially smoother experience. According to Engadget, the reason for G-Sync monitors being priced higher is that it requires a proprietary NVIDIA module that costs companies an extra $100.
If the Acer Predator X27 is something you’re interested in, head on over to Newegg’s website for the details.
