Lenovo Z5 ‘Full-Screen’ Smartphone May Feature Dual-Camera

Lenovo has recently been teasing a new device which it claims is going to be all-screen, meaning that it will have a screen-to-body ratio of more than 95 percent. The front of the device will be all display without a notch so it would certainly set this handset apart from the competition. Lenovo has gradually been revealing information about this handset and the camera samples that it has now posted online suggest that the device will feature a dual camera system at the back.

Lenovo’s President Chang Cheng recently hinted that this device, which he refers to as the Lenovo Z5, is going to feature 4TB of internal storage. He has also said that four technological breakthroughs will be introduced with this device which will also feature 18 patented technologies.

The Lenovo Z5 camera samples posted on Weibo are accompanied by a watermark which reads “AI Dual Camera.” This not only suggests that the device will have a dual camera setup at the back, but that the camera itself will have artificial intelligence features which is a trend that many smartphone manufacturers are jumping on this year.

The images themselves try to show off the camera’s prowess in night and dusk conditions when lighting is typically not that great outdoors. It’s certainly not enough to form a solid opinion about the camera performance of this device but it does look promising.

Lenovo is yet to confirm when the Z5 is going to be launched and in which countries it’s going to be available for purchase.

Unlocked Moto Z Handsets Getting Oreo In The U.S.

Even though Google has already released a public beta of Android P, the next major iteration of its mobile platform, there are still many devices that have yet to receive an update to the stable version of Android 8.0 Oreo. Its OEM partners are gradually rolling out the update in more markets across the globe. Those who own unlocked Moto Z handsets in the United States can now rejoice as the Oreo update is now being rolled out for them.

Those who own an unlocked Moto Z will now receive an over-the-air update to Android 8.0. Motorola is rolling out the latest firmware update for the handset with model number XT1650-03.

It has been a long wait for unlocked Moto Z owners in the United States as the company has already released this update elsewhere. The same handset actually got Oreo down in Brazil some two months ago.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that word started spreading that some Moto Z handsets had received the update at last. Motorola hadn’t started to roll out the update widely until now, though, and those who couldn’t wait relied on workarounds that require an unlocked bootloader.

The Moto Z Oreo update comes in at 1.4GB which isn’t a surprise seeing as how it’s a major Android platform update. It brings all of the new features included in Oreo as well as the latest Android security patch.

Zuckerberg’s European Parliament Meeting Will Now Be Streamed Live

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will soon be heading to the European Parliament for a meeting which is likely going to touch on similar subjects that came up during his recent hearing before the United States Congress. The meeting was initially going to be conducted behind closed doors but after pressure from members of parliament and the public, Zuckerberg has agreed to having the meeting live-streamed online.

Zuckerberg appeared before Congress recently to ask questions after the data misuse scandal involving Cambridge Analytica was revealed. He had to answer questions about how Facebook collects data and what it does with all of that data. He also answered additional questions related to privacy protections and censorship.

A parliamentary committee in the United Kingdom has been trying to get the Facebook CEO to appear before it as well to answer its questions related to the data scandal. Zuckerberg has so far declined to appear even though the committee has threatened to issue a formal summons.

He will be heading to the European Parliament tomorrow, though. Antonio Tajani, the president of the parliament, has confirmed that the meeting with Zuckerberg will be streamed online live after the CEO accepted the request.

“We’re looking forward to the meeting and happy for it to be live-streamed,” Facebook said in a statement. The live stream will be available on the European Parliament website from 12 PM ET tomorrow.

Star Trek TNG Ladies’ Skant Uniform: Operations Gold Is the New Black

This Star Trek: The Next Generation starfleet uniform takes fashion to the final frontier. The iconic skant uniform was briefly seen in the first season of the series. I think it was only in the pilot in fact. Now you can wear one too!

You can choose from Command (red), Operations (gold), or Sciences (blue). The dresses are totally accurate since the design was replicated from screen-used costumes and production patterns.

This is perfect for warm weather cosplay and relaxed nerd get-togethers. The designers cut this for the female body, but no worries guys, you can wear one and look good too. You can wear it alone or with pants, but don’t wear it with a purse. No one in the future uses purses. Heck, they don’t even use pockets. Did that guy just shave his legs?

Now that these are available we will probably see them everywhere. Nah. Not really… mostly just at conventions and stuff. What the heck were they thinking? Whatever. It’s a fun costume for any Star Trek fan to dress up in.

Microsoft buys AI company to improve Cortana's conversational skills

Microsoft has acquired a natural language AI firm called Semantic Machines to help Cortana and other bots carry on natural conversations, it announced. The tech “uses the power of machine learning to enable users to discover, access and interact with…

Microsoft’s Latest Acquisition Will Help Make AI More Conversational

If you’ve ever had a conversation with someone working at the concierge at a hotel or at the information counter in a mall, it’s basically that, a conversation where you can ask questions and it will flow naturally. When it comes to our digital assistants and AI, that’s where it falters but Microsoft is looking to change that with its latest acquisition.

The company has announced that they have acquired a company by the name of Semantic Machines, which they plan on leveraging to help further the development of conversational AI. As Microsoft rightfully points out, most of today’s digital assistants can only understand simple queries, such as setting a reminder, sending a message, playing a song, and so on, but beyond that they are not capable of understanding meaning or carry on conversations like you might from a human being.

According to Microsoft, “With the acquisition of Semantic Machines, we will establish a conversational AI center of excellence in Berkeley to push forward the boundaries of what is possible in language interfaces. Combining Semantic Machines’ technology with Microsoft’s own AI advances, we aim to deliver powerful, natural and more productive user experiences that will take conversational computing to a new level.”

Teen Monitoring App Accidentally Leaks Account Info Of Its Users

If you’ve never heard of the app called TeenSafe, there’s a good chance that’s because you’re either not a teen or you’re not a parent. For those unfamiliar, TeenSafe is an app designed to monitor the smartphones of teens by their parents, keeping track of how teens use their phones so that parents have a better idea of what their kids are up to.

The app also bills itself as being a “secure” monitoring app, although that seems rather ironic now because according to a report from ZDNet, the app has accidentally leaked thousands of its users’ account information, which includes Apple ID email addresses, the names of the device of its users (which in some cases were the names of the teens), its unique identifier, and even passwords which were stored in plaintext format.

The leak was originally discovered by UK-based security researcher Robert Wiggins and verified by ZDNet who informed the service of its leaky servers, following which they were pulled offline. In a statement provided to ZDNet, a TeenSafe spokesperson said, “We have taken action to close one of our servers to the public and begun alerting customers that could potentially be impacted.”

It is unclear if hackers might have accessed any of this information before it was discovered, but if you are a parent who uses TeenSafe or knows someone who does, perhaps it might be a good idea to revisit your security settings just to be safe.
