OnePlus 6 durability test shows it’s worth more than its price

OnePlus has finally launched the OnePlus 6, including an Avengers edition, but there were really no surprises left by the time it did. Well, except the price, though, as expected, it was higher than last year’s model, though not by much and definitely a lot lower than equivalent flagships. Some, however, might have some bias against more affordable (read: cheaper) … Continue reading

Steam Link App Now Available On Android In Beta

Last week Valve announced that they would be launching a Steam Link app for mobile devices. While it is not to be confused with the Steam Link gadget, in practice it more or less does the same thing where users can stream their games on Steam to their mobile devices via the app so that they can play PC games on their phones.

The good news is that if you were looking forward to the launch of the app, you’ll be pleased to learn that it is now available on Android in beta form. This means that gamers with Android devices will be able to take it for a spin, but note that since the app is in beta, it means that there might be some kinks that have yet to be worked out, and features that aren’t necessarily guaranteed to make the final cut.

We’re not sure if it is stable enough to be used daily, but like we said if you’re curious as to how this will work and if it is a viable way of playing games, then you can take it for a spin via the Google Play Store. Now given that our smartphone’s touchscreen displays aren’t necessarily the best controllers for certain games, you’ll probably want to pair it with a Bluetooth controller.

Alternatively if you own a Steam Controller, Valve has recently introduced support for Bluetooth for the controller that will let you pair it with your smartphone or tablet.

Facebook Stories Will Now Start Displaying Ads

One of the more successfully borrowed features from Snapchat by Instagram is Stories. The feature has proven to be a huge hit amongst Instagram users, so much so that Facebook decided that it should be brought over to Facebook and WhatsApp as well. So much so that it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that ads will now be displayed.

Ads on Instagram’s Stories have been around for a while now so we guess it was only a matter of time before they found their way onto Facebook as well. These days will run 5-15 seconds and they are skippable, pretty much like how they are on Instagram. However with Snapchat starting to test unskippable ads, don’t be surprised if such ad formats were to eventually make their way onto Facebook/Instagram Stories as well.

That being said, according to the numbers shared by TechCrunch, Facebook’s Stories daily users are said to be around 150 million, while Instagram is at 300 million. What’s interesting is that WhatsApp’s Stories (or Status) is even higher at 450 million, but we guess given that WhatsApp is a communications app, there might be more of a need for it than Instagram.

No word on whether or not we’ll be seeing ads arrive for WhatsApp’s Statuses in the future, but for now it remains ad-free.

Bixby 2.0 Will Launch With The Samsung Galaxy Note 9

We have been hearing a fair amount of rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, but if there is at least one feature of the phone that can be confirmed, it would be that it is expected to launch with the latest version of Bixby, Samsung’s take on the smart digital assistant.

This was confirmed in a report from The Korea Herald in which Samsung’s head of AI Center Gray G. Lee told the publication that the Note 9 would feature an improved version of Bixby. Lee does not dive into specifics but goes on to state that these improves will include enhanced natural language processing (which means that users can talk to Bixby “normally”), improved noise resistance, and faster response times.

Of course whether or not Bixby 2.0 will deliver remains to be seen, especially in such a competitive space where companies like Amazon and Google seem to be cornering the market, especially with their smart speaker products. Samsung is hoping to connect a total of 14 million units of its products with Bixby this year, and has a grand ambition of connecting all of it by 2020.

There have been reports that Samsung is also planning on launching a Bixby-powered speaker which last we heard, could be launched in the second half of 2018 which is also around the time Samsung is expected to launch the Note 9.
