Nokia X6 global availability depends on you

HMD Global has quite a number of Nokia phones in the market, but not all of them are available everywhere. There might even be some that are exclusive to just one market. That is definitely true for the newly announced Nokia X6, which seems to be destined for China only. But perhaps because of the “traffic” the new smartphone is … Continue reading

Apple Reportedly Sold 600,000 HomePods During Q1 2018

Just like how the Apple Watch is one of the more expensive wearables in the market today, so was the HomePod which at $350 makes it pricier than other smart speakers in the market. However unlike the Apple Watch which seems to be selling pretty well, the HomePod isn’t doing as hot and according to the latest figures, has only managed to sell 600,000 units to date.

This is according to a report from Strategy Analytics who claims that this has allowed Apple to capture about 6% of the global smart speaker market, putting them well behind the likes of Amazon and Google. While 600,000 is still a lot of speakers, compared to Amazon it pales in comparison as Amazon has reportedly shipped an estimated 4 million Echo devices during the same quarter.

This gives Amazon a 43.6% share of the market, followed by Google who commands 26.5% of the market with about 2.4 million Google Home speakers shipped in the first quarter of 2018. This is actually not the first time we’re hearing that the HomePod speakers aren’t doing as well as Apple would have liked.

Last month there were rumors that claimed Apple had halved their orders for the HomePod and could even be considering creating a low-cost model to help spur sales. Analysts are also slightly pessimistic about the HomePod’s success, with some estimating that Apple might only sell as little as 2 million units in 2018.

Instagram Now Lets Users Share Posts To Stories

Users looking to reshare other Instagram posts on their own profile have had to resort to unofficial methods, whether it be screenshotting the post and posting it on their own profile, or using third-party apps. However last we heard Instagram was testing out a more official means to do so.

Now it looks like that feature is live where users can now share posts of other Instagram users on their Stories. This isn’t the same as regramming and it should be noted that a few months ago, Instagram was testing out the feature already. It is unclear if this is as far as Instagram will go to allow users to reshare posts, or if this will be a separate feature from regramming.

According to Instagram, “To share a feed post to your story, just tap the paper airplane button below the post, just as you would to send it via Direct. At the top, you’ll now see the option to create a story. Tap it to see the feed post as a sticker with a customized background ready to share to your story. You can rotate, scale and move the sticker — and tap it to explore other styles.”

As Instagram notes, this only works on posts made by profiles that are public, which means that you can share a post made by a profile that is private. Instagram is also giving users the option of opting out from having their posts shared in the settings menu.

Analyst Predicts Apple Glasses In Late 2021

Rumors have swirled that Apple could be working on a new wearable in the form of a pair of augmented reality (AR) glasses. However the only question is when will such a device make its debut? For those who are interested to see how Apple will tackle the AR market with a wearable, it seems that you have a bit of waiting to do.

According to analyst Gene Munster of Loup Ventures, he is now predicting that the Apple Glasses will only be launched in late 2021. According to Munster, “We expect Apple’s AR theme to play out in three phases. First, this fall we expect 2 to 3 new iPhones to join iPhone X with advanced optics for AR (VCSEL arrays).”

“Second, AR apps built using ARKit will slowly become the next gold rush for developers, led by games, ecommerce, and education. Last, we expect Apple will release Apple Glasses late in 2021.” This isn’t the first time that Munster has predicted the launch of Apple’s AR glasses, where previously his company had predicted it would launch in 2020.

The reason for the new and later estimate is after meeting several AR experts, in which based on the conversations, it is believed that such devices in general are still several years away from becoming mainstream. Munster also believes that adoption of such devices might be difficult due to the negative perceptions surrounding the wearing of such devices due to their built-in cameras.
