This Custom Star Wars Rey’s Blaster Fires Glowsticks

If you’ve ever wanted a blaster that looks like it is actually firing lasers, Joerg Sprave is your man. He has come up with a clever way to simulate blaster fire. There are no actual deadly lasers here, so no worries about shooting your eye out. Instead, he uses glow sticks in his replica of Rey’s blaster from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As with all of Sprave’s builds, this replica is completely custom, so it won’t be for sale. But he does go over the details of its construction if you want to build one for yourself. It looks like all you need is basic woodworking skills—and access to some good elastics. Put in a little hard work and you have yourself a cool laser shooting blaster, and an awesome cosplay accessory.

Obviously, it especially looks great in the dark. You can build two of them and have a kick-ass laser blaster fight in the backyard when the sun goes down so that your neighbors think there’s an alien invasion. Hopefully, they aren’t in the mood to fill aliens full of buckshot. Good job as usual, Joerg!

Transform your Amazon Echo into the Amazon Echo Tap with this new accessory

Mission_Battery_Shell_for_Echo_2Mission Accessories knows that a little bit of innovation here and there, and one will be able to enjoy a far more fulfilling experience with existing devices in the market. This is why they have announced the release of the Mission Battery Shell. The Mission Battery Shell carries the proud distinction of being the first integrated battery solution for the Amazon Echo 2. As opposed to hooking up a bulky battery pack right at the bottom of the Echo in a manner where it is all too easy for the battery could fall off, the Mission Battery Shell takes the road less traveled by integrating a hidden rechargeable lithium-ion battery right into the outer shell of Amazon Echo. Taking into consideration that the Echo should be portable, the user can simply slide off the decorative shell which is part of the Amazon Echo, replacing it with the Mission Battery Shell instead. Such an easy installation process requires but seconds, and best of all is, there is no need for any tools.

According to Mission Accessories President Brian Wengreen, “Users will appreciate the flexibility of being able to use Amazon Echo in their garage, patio, garden, gym, or virtually anywhere else. For the first time, there is no need to try to attach a battery pack to the bottom of Echo as with other solutions that are available today. Instead, with the Battery Shell, the rechargeable battery actually becomes part of Echo. The Mission Battery Shell basically turns Echo 2 into the equivalent of the original Amazon Echo Tap but with the higher-performance audio and updated near-field microphone array that are available with the Echo 2.”

So far, the Mission Battery Shell has gone through rigorous testing at the National Analysis Center with flying colors, and is fully compatible with the Amazon Echo 2 right out of the box. It even includes robust protection for the Echo, knowing that many people bring their Echo around with them. Boasting of a Vex silicone pad and Real-Shield hard shell, it will protect the Echo from damage during accidental drops as well as from everyday wear and tear. The Mission Battery Shell provides enough juice to last anywhere from 8 to 10 hours away from a power outlet. Other features include a 30 Watt Mega-Boost Regulator that supports deep bass tones, seamless transitions between “plugged-in” mode and portable mode via Power Path FET technology, and a premium Renesas microprocessor that controls the Precision Control System. The Mission Battery Shell for Echo 2 can be picked up for $49.99 apiece.

Yet Another Report Claims Earlier Than Expect Galaxy Note 9 Launch

A rumor from a couple of months ago revealed that Samsung could be thinking of launching the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 earlier than expected, possibly in July. This is much earlier than Samsung usually launches their Note series of smartphones, but it looks like those rumors won’t be put to rest anytime soon.

According to a report from The Korea Herald, it seems that they too are claiming an earlier than expected launch for the Galaxy Note 9. The report claims that this is to make up for the supposed low sales of the Galaxy S9 series, which last we heard only recently hit the 1 million units sold mark in South Korea.

It goes on to claim that the phone might be unveiled in August instead of September, a month earlier than last year. While it’s not as early as July as per the other report, it does seem to corroborate rumors that the phone could be launched earlier than previous generations of the Note series.

While Samsung declined to comment on the report, a Samsung official was quoted as saying. “The internal atmosphere is not much different compared to last year for early launches. There are a lot of co-works underway with outside part suppliers to develop various prototypes. Their supply timing wouldn‘t determine our schedules for new launches.”

HMD Sends Out Invites To An Event On May 29

Are you excited at the prospect of seeing new Nokia phones? If you are, you might be interested to learn that HMD Global has recently started to send out press invites to an event that they will be hosting in Russia on the 29th of May. It is unclear as to what might be announced, but given HMD’s association with Nokia, we’re probably looking at new phones.

It has been pointed out that at least three Nokia handsets have recently been given regulatory approval over in Russia, so there’s a good chance that we will be seeing at least three new Nokia phones. The Nokia X6 has also recently been announced but given that the launch seemed originate from China, perhaps the event in Russia could announce the handset for the market as well.

Earlier this year at MWC 2018, a HMD executive confirmed that several Nokia handsets were due for a refresh, such as the Nokia 2, 3, and 5, so there is also a chance that the event could be about these phones. If you were hoping for something high-end it seems unlikely that will be happening at this particular event.

In any case check back with us on the 29th of May if you’d like to see what HMD Global might have in store for us in terms of new Nokia phones.

Oreo Update For Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Temporarily Halted

Major Android updates are usually something to look forward to, especially since they come with new major features, some redesigns, and general improvements. Unfortunately sometimes the roll out of these updates don’t always go as smoothly as one would like, which is the case with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

According to reports, it seems that the update has been halted temporarily due to the fact that users have been complaining that the update has been causing reboots. This is according to a report from Samsung’s European help forum in which a rep posted a comment which reads, “Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S7 devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update. We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.”

This is similarly reflected on the Notices section on Samsung Canada’s website which reads, “S7/S7 edge Android O upgrade is pending a fix for a technical issue discovered post initial rollout, Updates will be shared as available.” No word on when the update is expected to resume but we guess Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users will have to be patient and wait.
