Microsoft Launches Surface Hub 2
Posted in: Today's ChiliMicrosoft’s giant Surface Hub displays for business customers has done well and the company is now showing off the next generation of this product. The original Surface Hub 2 came out back in 2016 and it had a 55 inch 1080p display as well as an option for an 84 inch 4K display. The Surface Hub 2 that it has announced today will have a smaller 50.5 inch display with a resolution that’s greater than 4K and a 3:2 aspect ratio which will result in very slim bezels.
For those keeping track, 3:2 is the same aspect ratio as Microsoft’s other Surface products, and it works well with this new device considering the fact that it can now rotate to a portrait position as well.
The ability to rotate the Surface Hub 2 to a portrait orientation is made possible by a rather clever mechanism which appears to work in a fashion similar to the muscle wire lock on the Surface Book. It will allow businesses to get more mileage out of their Surface Hub 2 for sure.
The software is going to be based on Windows 10 and Microsoft is also developing new dynamic collaboration abilities for the software which will allow multiple users to log into a single Surface Hub 2 using the built-in fingerprint reader and then individually pull in their work into the single collaborative environment.
Microsoft hasn’t revealed a lot of details about the Surface Hub 2’s specifications today so it’s going to be a long wait for those who are interested in those details. The company hasn’t even revealed how much it’s going to cost and when it’s going to arrive. It did mention that the Surface Hub 2 will start shipping in 2019.

The Mate SE was launched by Huawei in March this year. It can easily be described as a slightly upgraded model of the Honor 7X which costs a bit more money. Huawei released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Honor 7X last month which meant that it was only a matter of time before this handset got the update as well. Huawei has now started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Mate SE.
Reports have now started coming in that the Huawei Mate SE is finally receiving its Android 8.0 Oreo update. The update weighs in at almost 2.4GB which is not surprising given that it’s a major Android platform update.
It brings all of the features that users have come to expect from Android 8.0 Oreo, including but not limited to the picture-in-picture mode, Autofill API, improvements to the notification shade.
Additional features that this update brings include seamless integration with LinkedIn, the ability to connect with two Bluetooth devices at the same time, face unlock, a floating navigation dock, and more. It also includes EMUI version 8.0 which is Huawei’s custom skin for Android and comes with its own suite of features.
Huawei Mate SE owners who haven’t received an update notification on their handsets as yet should expect to get one in the days to come.

Do you remember the Surface Hub? Chances are you forgot it even existed. And yet, Microsoft just announced a second version of the Surface Hub. The company hasn’t shared any specifications or price, but it won’t be available before 2019 — selected customers will test the Surface Hub 2 starting this year.
The Surface Hub was a crazy expensive digital whiteboard that could handle anything from video conferences to document collaboration. Microsoft says that there are 5,000 companies using Surface Hubs, including half of Fortune 100 companies.
It’s unclear if each company has bought one Surface Hub or a thousand. But it seems like there was enough interest to work on a second version. At heart, it’s still a gigantic touchscreen-enabled display. It runs Windows 10 and supports the Surface Pen.
Compared to the previous version, Microsoft has drastically reduced the bezels. It looks like a modern TV now, but with a 3:2 aspect ratio. Surprisingly, the video camera is now gone from the main device. You’ll need to plug a webcam above the display to start video conferences.
The most interesting part is the concept video. You can see a device with fluid use cases. You can hook it to a wall, you can put it on a rolling case, you can create a wall of Surface Hubs.
Users log in by putting their finger on the fingerprint sensor. This way, you can find all your documents and data and accept calls from your account.
Microsoft is trying to push the needle when it comes to computers. This is an innovative form factor that could fit well in your company’s workflow. It’s interesting to see that the company isn’t standing still. The Mac hasn’t drastically evolved while Microsoft still has bold ideas to share.
