Scientist heat water to 100,000C in less than a picosecond

Scientists have used a powerful X-ray laser to perform experiments on an exotic state of water. The experiment turned the laser into the fastest water heater ever by heating the water to 100,000 degrees Celsius in less than a tenth of a picosecond. That is insanely fast, too fast to really wrap your brain around. The water was heated in … Continue reading

Samsung Galaxy S9 Sales In South Korea Have Hit 1 Million

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is the company’s latest flagship smartphone and according to a report from The Investor, Samsung has recently confirmed that the Galaxy S9 has managed to hit 1 million units sold in South Korea. It sounds like a lot of phones and a number we’re sure many companies would love to hit, but it seems that it pales in comparison to its predecessors.

The Investor has pointed out that Samsung’s older handsets such as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S2 managed to hit the 1 million mark much sooner. For example the Galaxy S8 achieved those numbers in 37 days while the Galaxy S2 managed to hit it in 40. It is unclear why it took the Galaxy S9 so long to reach those figures, but it seems to be in line with an earlier report suggesting that sales of the handset locally were at a “record low”.

It is possible that the smartphone market might be too saturated with different brands and models. It is also possible that the rise in Chinese smartphone makers means that there are more users opting for affordable models rather than high-end flagships. Either way we suppose while the Galaxy S9 did take longer to hit the 1 million mark, the fact that it still managed to achieve that milestone is impressive all the same.

Perhaps next year’s Galaxy S10 with its rumored high pixel density display and in-display fingerprint sensor will make it a more compelling purchase.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Could Be PS4 Exclusive DLCs

Having console exclusives are a great way for console makers to try and attract players to its platform. For example games such as God of War, Halo, and Mario have been pretty compelling reasons for gamers to pick one platform over the other. Now it looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 could have some PS4 exclusives.

This is according to a recent tweet (via VG247) from the official Call of Duty account where they are reminding gamers of the upcoming announcement which is set for the 17th of May. The tweet also included a short video in which towards the end, an ad for the Sony PS4 was revealed which has led some to speculate that the game could have exclusive PS4 DLCs, or at the very least timed exclusives.

This means that if the speculation is on point, PS4 gamers can expect to get their hands on DLCs released for the game first for a set period of time before it is released onto other platforms. This would not be the first time we are seeing timed exclusives for consoles so this doesn’t really come as a surprise.

Black Ops 4 is currently set for a release on the PC, Xbox One, and the PS4. However a recently spotted photo has suggested that the game might be arriving on the Nintendo Switch as well, but we guess we’ll have to wait until the 17th of May for all the official details.

Nikon 1 Reportedly Semi-Discontinued In Canada

nikon 1Nikon’s mirrorless efforts haven’t seen the greatest success, at least not compared to its DSLR lineup. Now we have heard the rumors that Nikon could be developing a new mirrorless camera system, and now it looks like the company could be slowly starting to phase out the existing Nikon 1 series.

This is according to a thread on DPreview (via Nikon Rumors) which seems to suggest that Nikon could be discontinuing the Nikon 1 lineup at least as far as the Canadian market is concerned. The thread details a conversation between the poster and a Nikon rep at a trade photo show held in Regina, Canada.

The poster noticed that there were no Nikon 1 systems displayed at Nikon’s booth and when he asked about it, the rep replied by saying, “There won’t be anything new. We’ve introduced the last of the Nikon 1 bodies.” He then asked if this meant that the system had been discontinued, in which the rep responded, “Well, it’s not officially discontinued yet.”

That being said, Nikon had previously confirmed that they would be launching new mirrorless cameras in 2019, so that much we know. However whether or not this spells the end of the Nikon 1 system remains to be seen.
