Fujifilm instax SQUARE SQ6 is an analog camera in a digital world

We live in a digital age but analog, paper, and mechanical tools not only still exist but also prevail. It may not exactly be the most profitable market, but these nostalgia products … Continue reading

Netflix To Launch Guillermo Del Toro’s Horror Anthology Series

Guillermo del Toro is a name that many are familiar with as the director has been responsible for directing quite a few supernatural/fantasy style movies, such as Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy, and more recently The Shape of Water. He has also dabbled in horror with The Strain TV series which is also based on a trilogy of books he helped to write.

This is why it’s not surprising that del Toro’s next project is a horror anthology that Netflix has announced that they have just picked up. Dubbed “Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight”, these are a series of horror stories that according to Netflix, “are both equally sophisticated and horrific.”

The press release also notes, “On Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight, creator and executive producer del Toro will bring his own visionary style as both a writer and director to certain episodes. In addition, he will hand pick a team of the genre’s best writers and exciting new filmmakers to bring his selection of stories to life.”

At this point in time there is no mention on when this new series will be launched, so we guess we’ll just have to wait for it, but if you’re a fan of del Toro’s previous works then this could be worth looking forward to.

Overwatch Second Anniversary Confirmed For May 22

According to an earlier leak, it was suggested that Overwatch’s secondary anniversary event was set for the 22nd of May. This information actually came from the Overwatch Brazil Twitter page, but was subsequently removed presumably due to Blizzard not being ready to officially announce the dates yet.

However for those wondering, it looks like the dates were spot on as Blizzard has officially confirmed that the game’s second anniversary will be kicking off on the 22nd of May. The accompanying video more or less shows the same video as the previous post, so if you’ve seen that then there’s nothing new.

For those who missed it, the video does show what appears to be new skins for characters in the game. This is to be expected since Blizzard typically releases new skins to celebrate in-game events. As noted in the tweet, Blizzard will also be bringing back past brawls to the game, so gamers will want to keep an eye out for it.

In addition to the announcement of the second anniversary, Blizzard has also announced that Overwatch will be getting a free weekend event from the 25-28th of May, so if you want to experience the anniversary event, you should be able to do so during the free weekend.

Fujifilm Unveils New Square Format Instax Camera

Fujifilm might be known to some for its Instax series of cameras. For those unfamiliar with these cameras, basically they’re film cameras that can print photos taken on the spot. For the most part the photos printed are rectangular in shape, but for those who are fans of the square format, you might be interested in Fujifilm’s latest offering.

The company has recently announced their latest Instax camera in the form of the Instax Square SQ6. For those the most part the SQ6 will function similarly to other Fujifilm Instax camera where it will let photographers take photos and print them instantly, but the main difference would be that the format printed will be square.

There will be other features such as a programmable electronic shutter release, a motor-based macro, landscape, and double exposure focus modes. There will also be a 10-second timer if you are trying to get a group shot. Fujifilm is also claiming that users will be able to get about 300 pictures worth on a single charge.

Film will be sold separately, of course, and will be available in packs of 10. As for pricing, the SQ6 is priced at $130 and will be available come 25th of May. This is not the first square format camera Fujifilm has launched, with the previous model being the hybrid SQ10 which is almost double the price of the SQ6.

Gmail Update Will Now Nudge Users To Respond To Emails

Sometimes we get so many emails that it gets a bit hard to keep track of them, and sometimes we might end up forgetting to reply. However it seems that Google is introducing some changes to Gmail that will help to remind users to reply to emails by nudging them by highlighting emails that might need a response to.

According to Google, “When your inbox is flooded with emails, some will inevitably slip through the cracks. Luckily, the new Gmail can help. It will now “nudge” users to reply to emails they may have missed and to follow up on emails for which they haven’t received a response. Nudging is on by default for users with the new Gmail enabled, but they can turn it off from their Gmail settings menu if they choose.”

Google is claiming that these nudging features are based on AI, which presumably will be based on the content of the emails to determine if a reply is necessary. For example you might have utility bills sitting in your inbox that you obviously do not have to reply to, and the use of AI will help separate such emails.

It does sound like a pretty nifty feature to have, especially if you’re someone who is bad at replying promptly, so do keep an eye out for these reminders if you are using Gmail. Note that this is only available for the web version of Gmail and it is unclear if there are plans to bring a similar feature to mobile in the future.

Uber Now Lets Riders Rate & Tip Drivers During Trips

When it comes to Uber rides, if you want to rate and tip your driver, this feature is usually reserved at the end of the journey which makes a lot of sense. However Uber has recently announced some changes to the way rating and tipping works, where they will now let riders rate and/or tip their drivers during the trip itself.

According to Uber, “But when you have feedback to share, you shouldn’t have to wait to share it with us. You’ve got places to go and things to do, and we never want to miss an opportunity to listen and improve. That’s why we’re introducing the ability to rate, compliment, tip, and share feedback during your ride — and doing more with the feedback you share with us.”

This could be useful because some users might forget to rate or tip their drivers once they are out of the car. It can also come in handy in situations where you have a bad driver and you’re looking for a way to provide feedback on the spot. Uber also states that with the feedback, they’ll use it to help analyze issues like navigation and pickup spots, all in the name of improving its services for the future.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Display Pixel Density To Be Over 600 PPI

2019 marks the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10, the successor to the Galaxy S9 and also the 10th version of the Galaxy S series of smartphones. Chances are like how Apple celebrated 10 years of iPhones with the iPhone X, Samsung might want to do something big as well, and now rumors about the upcoming have started to trickle out.

According to the latest rumor which is based on a tweet by Ice Universe (via SamMobile), Samsung’s 2019 flagship smartphone is expected to sport a display with a pixel density of over 600 PPI. At the moment the Samsung Galaxy S9 h as a pixel density of 570 PPI, which means that for Samsung to increase it even further they would either have to shrink the display size or increase the resolution, and chances are it could be the latter.

For those unfamiliar with the importance of pixel density, basically the more pixels that can fit into a single area, the sharper the image will be. This is why smartwatches can get away with low resolutions because of their small displays, even a 320×320 resolution will look relatively sharp.

It is unclear as to what resolution we might be looking at, but the next logical step would be to go 4K. We’ve seen Sony attempt to do with the Xperia XZ2 Premium, so it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Samsung were to try something similar as well. In any case it’s probably best to take this report with a grain of salt for now.
