LG Giving Away Free Smart TVs With LG G7 ThinQ Purchase

Thinking about getting your hands on the recently announced LG G7 ThinQ? If you are, you might be interested to learn that according to a tweet by LG Canada, it seems that in a bid to help promote the phone and encourage customers to purchase it, LG will be giving customers a free 4K smart TV.

However as you might have suspected from the origin of the tweet, it seems that this is only applicable to those living in Canada, so if you are from Canada then perhaps this might be of interest to you. It is unclear if LG plans on running a similar promotion in the US or if they might have something else planned.

For those who are living in Canada, the conditions are that you will have to pre-order the phone between 18th of May to the 31st of May in order to qualify for it. Once you do, you will need to head on over to LG’s website and submit an online claim form together with proof of your purchase, after which you will be able to redeem a 43-inch 4K smart TV with model number 43UK6300.

The website also lists the various carriers and retailers that are participating in this giveaway, so head on over if you’d like to check it out. The TV itself is worth around CAD$600 which make it a pretty good and practical gift, especially if you’re in the market for a new TV.

Google Employees Resigning En Masse In Protest Against Pentagon Contract

Companies take on all kinds of work from time to time which is pretty much how they make money. Government contracts are particularly lucrative, but in the case of Google, it seems that many of its employees do not agree with the company apparently taking on a job by the Pentagon to develop artificial intelligence (AI) for use in drones.

So much so that according to a report from Gizmodo, employees have been resigning en masse to protest the contract. The contract, for those wondering, is for a project known as Project Maven. This involves the development of AI for use in drones which is supposed to help speed up the analysis of drone footage by classifying images of objects and people.

The employees who are resigning are reportedly doing so for a few reasons, such as the ethics of using AI in drone warfare where some believe that such critical and lethal decisions should be made by humans, and not a computer. There are also some who are resigning over concerns about Google’s political decisions.

Google has defended their work and in a statement made last month, the company said, “The technology is used to flag images for human review and is intended to save lives and save people from having to do highly tedious work. Any military use of machine learning naturally raises valid concerns. We’re actively engaged across the company in a comprehensive discussion of this important topic and also with outside experts, as we continue to develop our policies around the development and use of our machine learning technologies.”

In addition to those who resigned, there are also nearly 4,000 employees who have signed an internal petition asking Google to immediately cancel their contract and institute a policy on future military work.

According to one resigning employee, “Actions speak louder than words, and that’s a standard I hold myself to as well. I wasn’t happy just voicing my concerns internally. The strongest possible statement I could take against this was to leave.”

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Switch Case Spotted At GameStop

Last month there was a rumor suggesting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 could be launching on the Nintendo Switch. If the rumors are true, then this is a big deal as having more triple A titles on the Switch would no doubt help make it a more compelling purchase, although in all fairness the Switch seems to be doing pretty well by itself already.

Now to fuel the rumors of Black Ops 4 arriving on the Switch, Twitter user AUGMC posted a photo which allegedly shows Black Ops 4 Switch cases being displayed on GameStop. This seems to corroborate the earlier rumors about the gaming launching on the Switch, although whether or not this is speculation on GameStop’s part or if they know something we don’t is unclear.

That being said, the last time we saw a Call of Duty game launch on Nintendo consoles was back in 2013 with Call of Duty: Ghosts, meaning that there has been about 5 years worth of Call of Duty games that have passed on Nintendo’s consoles. However Activision is expected to officially detail the game this week on the 17th of May, so perhaps we will learn more about it then. Black Ops 4 has also been set for a release on the 12th of October.
