Alphabet’s Verily Working On Noninvasive Methods Of Blood Collection

Given that our blood is inside of our bodies, the only way to extract it would be to draw it out, such as with a needle. Not surprisingly there are many who aren’t particularly comfortable having their blood drawn, but some need to do that on a daily basis for health check, such as for diabetes.

This is why it is not surprising that companies such as Apple have been working on noninvasive methods of blood collection. As it turns out Apple is not alone because according to a report from CNBC (via 9to5Google), Alphabet’s Verily is also said to be working on similar technology which could be implemented into future wearables, such as smartwatches.

This is actually not the first time that the company has expressed interest in noninvasive medical technology. Like we said, blood collection is used to help monitor the glucose levels of diabetes patients, but several years ago Google (before Alphabet was formed) was already exploring similar technological concepts, such as a contact lens that can also be used to monitor glucose levels.

However whether or not Verily’s ambitions will come to fruition remains to be seen, but CNBC’s report suggests that the launch of such a device could be years away where the company will no doubt be faced with all kinds of hurdles. This is also a similar outlook on Apple’s alleged noninvasive glucose monitoring system which is also said to be years away from being a reality.

Google’s Clips Camera Can Now Be Shared Amongst Families

Earlier this year, Google’s Clip camera was launched. For those unfamiliar with the device, it’s basically a digital camera that relies on AI to take photos, where it will try to use AI to determine the right moment to snap a photo. However the only downside is that it was programmed to be used by just one person only.

This means that if you wanted to lend it to someone else, that would not be possible unless you were to unpair it from your device. However the good news is that Google has recently announced that they have heard your requests for Clips to be used by more than one person, and will be issuing an update to allow that.

According to Google, “We’ve also heard from families using Clips that they want to be able to connect the device with more than one phone, so we’re adding family pairing this month, so that more than one family member can connect their phone to the Clips device to view and share content.”

In addition to the ability to be used by more than one person, Google has also announced improvements to the camera, such as being able to be better at detecting motions such as hugs, kisses, jumps, and more. Clips is currently priced at $250 but Google is offering it at a $50 discount for Mother’s Day.

Apple To Stream Carpool Karaoke From TV App For Free

When Apple acquired the rights to Carpool Karaoke, they made it exclusive to Apple Music which meant that users needed a subscription to Apple Music in order to stream it. However that will change soon because in a report from Billboard, Apple will be making Carpool Karaoke free to stream via its TV app this Friday, the 11th of May.

According to Apple, “Watch free episodes of Carpool Karaoke every week on the Apple TV App on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. The star-studded original series previously available only to Apple Music subscribers can now be enjoyed by everyone.” It’s actually an interesting move by Apple that could also be telling of the company’s plans for the future.

Right now the TV app basically houses various third-party streaming services, but a recent report has suggested that Apple could be using the TV app to sell subscriptions, whether it be for Apple’s own videos or third-party services like we mentioned. Apple has been on a roll buying up content and many are wondering how they plan to distribute it.

The TV app makes sense as it is available across a variety of Apple platforms, such as the Apple TV, the iPhone, and iPad. In any case if you’ve been meaning to catch Carpool Karaoke but don’t have an Apple Music subscription, this is a free alternative you could check out.

Snapchat Is Bringing Back Some Of Its Previous Designs

When Snap announced that Snapchat would be getting a redesign last year, it was meant to be for the better where it would make the app more user-friendly. Unfortunately it seems that Snap might not have anticipated the backlash, leading to the creation of a petition where users demanded that they bring back the old design.

Snap had initially defended the changes, but now it looks like the company will be conceding their defeat because according to a report from The Verge, some of Snapchat’s older designs will be making a return. The company has confirmed that they will be rolling out design changes to the app, where they will be bringing back some of the app’s previous designs.

For starters Snaps and Chats have gone back to being listed in chronological order, and Stories from friends have been moved back to their original location on the right-hand side of the interface. The app will also now launch in camera mode, as it did before the previous redesign. Hopefully these changes will be able to appease Snapchat’s core user base, especially since Snap’s first quarter earnings have shown that the redesign might not have been as beneficial as they would have liked.

These changes should already be rolling out to iOS users so do keep an eye out for it if it’s something you might be interested in.

Apple Watch Credited With Saving A Life In Hong Kong

apple watchThe Apple Watch is a smartwatch designed to help provide users with notifications from their phones on their wrist. It is also a fitness device that can track your workouts and also your heart rate, which is what might have saved a 76-year old’s life over in Hong Kong where it was discovered that he had two arteries that were 100% blocked and a third that was 90% blocked.

In a report from the South China Morning Post (via AppleInsider), 76-year old Gaston D’Aquino was attending church on Easter Sunday when he was alerted by his Apple Watch to his heart rate, which is when he went straight to the hospital to get checked. He then underwent angioplasty and is said to be feeling much better.

According to D’Aquino, he is generally healthy and did not show any outward symptoms prior to the alarm going off. He also later sent a letter off to Tim Cook in which Apple’s CEO responded by saying, “I’m so glad you sought medical attention and you’re fine now. I appreciate you taking the time to share your story.”

This is actually not the first time the Apple Watch has saved a life. Earlier this month it was reported that a teen’s life had been saved after her watch alerted her to a high heart rate, along with a man from New York who was diagnosed with an erupted ulcer.
