Xiaomi Took Full Advantage Of Rising Global Smartphone Sales

Market research firm Gartner has published its figures for global smartphone sales in the first quarter of this year. Smartphone sales were up slightly across the globe compared to the same period in 2017 and China-based Xiaomi seems to have taken full advantage of that as its market share has surged quite a bit during this period.

Gartner’s data shows that global smartphone sales were up by 1.3 percent in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same period last year. That may not seem much when you consider the entire smartphone market as a whole but some manufacturers have taken full advantage of increased demand.

Xiaomi’s market share has surged by 118 percent from Q1 2017 to Q2 2017. It has sold 28.5 million units to customers so far this year compared to 12.7 million in the same period last year.

Huawei, another rapidly growing Chinese manufacturer, also reaped the benefits of increased demand. It has sold over 40 million units to customers so far compared to 34 million this time last year.

The data shows that Samsung remained the largest smartphone vendor across the globe in the first quarter of this year, selling over 78.5 million units in this period. Apple remains firmly in second place with 54 million units sold in the first quarter of this year.
