Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri vulnerable to inaudible commands

Smart assistants, especially those in smart speakers, have to always be listening. There is no other way to have them ready to answer your questions or obey your commands at a moment’s notice, whether or not you have trigger phrase for it. Amazon Reportedly Planning To Use Alexa For ‘Health & Wellness’

The health industry is worth billions of dollars, if not more, which is why it is understandable that there are many tech companies out there who are starting to expand into creating health products, such as Apple, Google, and so on. Unsurprisingly Amazon is also interest, as we have heard in the past, but now it looks like they’re planning on leveraging Alexa as well.

In a report from CNBC, they have obtained a document which seems to suggest that Amazon is building a “health and wellness” team within their Alexa division. This seems to hint that Amazon could be interested in somehow leveraging Alexa for health features and functionality. It is unclear what specifically we might be talking about, but it seems that the team’s main job is to make Alexa more useful in the healthcare industry.

However we might have gotten a glimpse to Amazon’s plans because just in 2017, Amazon worked with Merck on developing Alexa skills to help people manage their diabetes. They even held a competition for developers to create appropriate skills, so it is pretty obvious that Amazon does seem potential for Alexa in the healthcare industry.

Maybe it could be that Alexa could be used to remind users to take their medications, or tie it in with health devices so that it can alert them to changes in their health, schedule doctor appointments, and so on. In any case Amazon isn’t commenting on their plans for now, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Microsoft Store finally support gifting digital games, DLCs

Contrary to stereotypes, gamers love to share. They are often very passionate about the games they love and, more often than not, are inclined to gift their friends a copy to spread the joy around. Unfortunately, digital distribution has made that act less straightforward compared to buying a physical disc and giving it to a fellow gamer. It relies on … Continue reading

Marvel’s ‘Avengers’ Franchise Will Continue After ‘Avengers 4’

In 2019 we will finally be getting our conclusion to the current Avengers storyline. However there is a question that some might have, which is what will become of the franchise after Avengers 4? Marvel has made it no secret that some characters will be meeting their end, but thankfully the franchise is expected to continue.

This was revealed by Disney’s CEO Bob Iger who said, “Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude there will never be another Avengers movie.” We suppose this shouldn’t be surprising since just like the comics, the roster of Avengers does change over time, so while the early MCU characters may no longer be featured in future Avengers movies, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end of the franchise. Not to mention it does seem to be a very lucrative franchise.

At the same time, Iger also seems to be eager to develop a new franchise that isn’t the Avengers. “We meet on a regular basis with our Marvel team, and we’ve plotted out Marvel movies that will take us well into the next decade. I’m guessing we will try our hand at what I’ll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see more Avengers down the road. We just haven’t made any announcements about that.”

Disney is currently in the process of trying to acquire Fox, which if successful will see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool folded into the MCU which in turn opens up the door for more possibilities, but we suppose we’ll have to wait until next year where Marvel is expected to share their plans for Phase 4 of the MCU.
