Given how we’re seeing more smartphone manufacturers drop the 3.5mm headphone jack, it’s not a surprise that the HTC U12+ has also done away with it as well. However what we’ve seen some companies do is throw in a dongle/adapter that lets users connect existing headphones via the micro USB/USB-C/Lightning port as an alternative.
Unfortunately it looks like HTC won’t be doing that for the U12+. This has been confirmed in a tweet by HTC USA in which they responded to a question by a customer asking about the headphone adapter. According to the response, it seems that HTC will not be including the adapter but will instead give customers a pair of HTC USonic Adaptive Earphones instead.
Wow! We’d like to thank you and congratulate you in advance for your upcoming HTC U12+, Aaroni. However, it does not come with a headphone adapter. It includes, HTC Rapid Charger 3.0 with USB Type-C Cable, HTC Clear Case, & HTC USonic™ Adaptive Earphones. Thank you 🙂

For those unfamiliar, the USonic Adaptive Earphones are a wired pair of earphones that connect to your phone via USB-C. We suppose it’s good that HTC is giving customers a pair of compatible headphones right out of the box, but at the same time we’re sure that there are plenty of users out there who already have a pair of headphones that they like and would like to keep using.
We suppose it’s not terribly difficult to get your hands on a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, but it would have made it a lot easier if HTC had included it. Note that this tweet comes from the HTC USA and based on replies to the tweet, it appears that HTC in other parts of the world are including the adapter, so it could only be the US market that won’t be getting it.

When you read or watch headphone reviews, what most reviewers will point out is the comfort of the headphones and whether or not they can be worn for extended periods of time. Some headphones tend to have a tighter grip which makes them uncomfortable, while some are designed for travel and have softer cushions which makes it more comfortable to wear.
However ultimately wearing headphones for too long can eventually get uncomfortable due to the heat, but HP might have a solution to that problem. The company has recently announced a new gaming headset called the Mindframe. For the most part its features are similar to other gaming headsets, but what makes it special is that it uses a patented thermoelectric cooling technique that helps keep your ears cool.
What this does is that it conducts heat from the acoustic chamber and directs it outside, which in a way is similar to heatsinks in computers which tries to redirect the heat away from the main components. Engadget managed to test the headphones out and claims that from their hands-on experience, it seems to work as promised.
Other features include a self-adjusting headband, a noise-cancelling microphone, 3D spatial awareness, and 7.1 virtual surround sound. No word on pricing but the HP Mindframe is expected to be released in the second half of 2018.

If you’re looking forward to playing more racing games on your Nintendo Switch, it appears that someone at Walmart might have gotten ahead of themselves and posted a listing for Team Sonic Racing, an upcoming racing game from SEGA featuring none other than Sonic. The game isn’t exactly a secret as we have been hearing about it for a while, but we reckon SEGA would have preferred to announce it themselves.
That being said, now that the cat (or hedgehog) has been let out of the bag, what can we expect? According to the game’s description on the listing, “Team Sonic Racing combines the best elements of arcade and fast-paced competitive style racing as you face-off with friends in intense multiplayer racing. Race together and work together as a team by sharing power-ups and speed boosts. Take control of your racing style – Choose from 3 distinct character types and unlock game-changing vehicle customization options to suit your racing style. Speed up. Gear Up Team Racing at Sonic Speed!”
It will feature online and local multiplayer modes where players can race against each other or race as teams. There will also be various customization options, along with Wisps which are attacking/defending items that players can use on each other. There will also be an Adventure Mode that brings a story to the game.
So far the game is only listed for the Nintendo Switch, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it were to make its way onto other platforms as well.
