Square Enix E3 2018 Showcase Confirmed

Square Enix didn’t put up a showcase at the E3 gaming convention in 2016 and 2017 but it’s back to the biggest gaming convention this year. The company has confirmed that there’s going to be a Square Enix E3 2018 digital showcase next month. It will host a pre-recorded video showcase of its upcoming titles at the gaming convention.

The Square Enix E3 2018 digital showcase will take place on Monday, June 11th at 10 am PDT. It says that the showcase will be used to reveal “this year’s exciting news and announcements.”

The publisher hasn’t revealed at this point in time what format this video showcase is going to take as it refers to it as both a “presentation” and “conference” in multiple posts on social media.

Square Enix’s E3 website does clear up things a bit, adding that there’s not going to be a physical venue that people will be able to flock. It also revealed that this video stream is going to be produced in advanced so it’s not like the announcements will be made live.

What Square Enix is yet to reveal is the roster of titles that it will be talking about at the event. Fans can expect to hear more about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Life is Strange 2, and possibly the new Avengers game that the publisher has in the pipeline.

Virtual Console For Nintendo Switch Ruled Out

Recent reports about the online subscription service for Nintendo Switch have suggested that it might offer a library of NES games as well. This led some to believe that the Virtual Console might be coming back. Nintendo has now set the record straight concerning the Virtual Console for Nintendo Switch: it’s not.

A spokesperson for Nintendo confirmed to Kotaku over email that “There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems.” This should put an end to recent speculation to the contrary.

All three previous Nintendo consoles – the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U – received their own iterations of Virtual Console which enables players to enjoy classic games on the consoles. That’s not going to be done for the Nintendo Switch right now, at least not in that manner.

There are other ways in which classic Nintendo games and titles from other publishers are brought to the Switch, these include the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo eShop, and packaged collections.

NES – Nintendo Switch Online will be a different way to play classic NES games due to enhancements such as online play, voice chat through the Nintendo Switch Online app, and the multiple play modes of the Nintendo Switch.

There have also been reports that games from other platforms such as GameCube will be made available through the online subscription service for the Switch. The company’s spokesperson said that Nintendo has nothing to announce on this topic right now.
