We have been hearing that Apple has been working on its latest update to iOS for a while now, which will bump it up from version iOS 11.3 to iOS 11.4. For those who have been following the update, you’ll be pleased to learn that you can now get your hands on the update as it is now live and available for download.
The update weighs in close to 300MB so you’ll probably want to make sure that you’re connected to WiFi and a power source before downloading it, lest you burn through your data cap. With the latest update, there are going to be some new features, such as Messages in iCloud and also AirPlay 2.
Starting with Messages, this basically stores all your messages which includes iMessage and SMS across all your devices (assuming they’re connected using the same Apple ID) on iCloud. This is meant to help make it faster to sync up messages when you switch from device to device, such as your iPhone to your iPad to your Mac computer.
This also means that when you get a new device, you’ll be able to see all your messages including older ones, whereas before it would only show the latest messages. It syncs deleted messages and threads and also stores your attachments in iCloud which can help free up native storage. Note that this is an opt-in feature which means that you’ll have to enable it manually on every Apple device you own.
Also since it will be syncing your attachments, if you use iMessage frequently to send photos and videos, it will count towards your iCloud storage so if you’re only using the free 5GB tier, it might be time to consider an upgrade to avoid the risk of running out of space.

If you’re a fan of the Zelda franchise, then you might be interested to learn that Nintendo has recently announced a new version of the 2DS XL console dubbed the Hylian Shield Edition. As you can see in the photo above, this is a 2DS XL console that has been given a new coat of paint with the Hylian Shield on the front of the console.
However apart from the brand new design, the rest of the console will remain the same as all the previous versions of it, so don’t expect this to be some kind of hardware refresh. However the console bundle will come with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, so if you’ve yet to play the game then this seems like a pretty good deal.
Become the hero you’ve always wanted to be with the New Nintendo #2DSXL Hylian Shield Edition, pre-installed with The Legend of #Zelda: A Link Between Worlds! Get it exclusively @GameStop for $159.99 July 2! pic.twitter.com/ZDxAVzTFvS

Also note that this is the 2DS XL, not the 3DS, so if you wanted a glasses-free 3D gaming experience you’ll probably need to get the 3DS, not this version, although it is unclear if there are plans for a Hylian Shield Edition of the 3DS. The console is priced at $160 which like we said includes a copy of the game which makes it a pretty good deal. It is also expected to see a release on the 2nd of July where according to Nintendo, it will be exclusive to GameStop so that’s where you’ll have to go if you want to get your hands on it.

With there being several digital assistants in the market today, it’s not surprising that support for some of them might come later than others, if at all, but the good news is that if you own Schlage’s Sense Smart Deadbolt, the company has announced that it will play nicely with Google Assistant where users can use the digital assistant to lock their doors.
We should point out that Schlage had previously announced plans to support Google Assistant earlier this year, and now it looks like support is finally rolling out. The latest announcement means that users can now lock and also check on the status of the lock using Google Assistant, a feature which they rolled out earlier this month for Amazon’s Alexa.
According to Rob Martens, futurist at Allegion, the maker of Schlage locks, “Schlage has been at the forefront of IoT security solutions since launching the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt in 2014. This new integration and functionality is a testament to our ongoing commitment to raise the bar for innovation, convenience and security and to support consumers’ choice of IoT platform.”
Schlage already works with Alexa and Apple’s HomeKit, so like we said earlier, it can sometimes take a while for companies to eventually extend their offerings to other platforms, but we suppose better late than never, right?

Posted in: Today's ChiliIt seems that the evidence against self-driving technology are slowly piling up. Coincidentally, the biggest number of them are coming from the car company that isn’t actually pushing for self-driving cars that much. Tesla’s cars have recently been involved in a few crashes, including a fatal one, that have been attributed to its Autopilot mode. And it seems it’s not … Continue reading
Qualcomm has revealed its latest chipset, the Snapdragon XR1, but rather than phones it’s intended for Extended Reality headsets like AR smartglasses and untethered VR. Slotting in beneath the Snapdragon 845 as a more affordable “XR” option for device-makers, it’s part of Qualcomm’s attempt to capture entry-level standalone systems. Right now, as the company sees it, there are four main … Continue reading
