Galaxy S9 Call Issues Fixed With New Update

Some Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners complained about call issues with their new Samsung flagships soon after they picked one up. The handsets did receive a firmware update last month which brought the security patch for the month of April 2018 but it didn’t bring a fix for these issues. The company has now rolled out a separate update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ which reportedly fixes the aforementioned call issues.

Many Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ owners had reported that their handsets would mute the voice during a phone call for as much as 20 seconds randomly. Some also complained that they were experiencing unreasonable distortion during calls which made it very difficult to understand what the person at the other end was saying.

These issues ended up landing Samsung in hot water in Israel. A lawsuit has actually been filed by users in Israel who experienced this issue and weren’t happy that Samsung didn’t come out with a fix as soon as it should have.

Samsung is now rolling out a new software update for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+. The changelog mentions that the update brings call stability improvements and those who had experienced the issues before are now reporting that this update does indeed take care of the problem.

Self-Driving Waymo Minivan Involved In A Crash

By now many of you would be aware that an Uber self-driving car struck down a pedestrian in Arizona a couple of months ago who died not too long after the accident. Uber has since suspended its autonomous driving tests as it conducts an investigation into what happens. There’s still a lot of work left to do to ensure that autonomous cars are completely safe on public roads, nevertheless, accidents will happen. One of Waymo’s self-driving minivan was involved in a crash in Arizona.

Local news stations report that one of Waymo’s self-driving minivans was involved in an accident in Chandler, Arizona earlier this week. This wasn’t a fatal accident, fortunately, but some minor injuries were reported at the scene.

The town’s police have said that the minivan was in autonomous mode when the crash happened and that there was a safety driver behind the wheel but the car wasn’t said to be the “violator vehicle,” which basically means that the accident was caused by some other car on the road.

A spokesperson for Waymo said that its car was struck when “another car traveling in an oncoming lane swerved across the median.” The company also released a small clip of the crash that was captured by the minivan’s onboard cameras.

Best Buy Starts Selling The Razer Phone

Razer’s first mobile device is now finally available for purchase from Best Buy. The company has previously been selling this handset through its online store, Microsoft, and Amazon. The only way potential customers could try the handset before putting money down for it was by looking for a Microsoft retail store in their city. Now that the Razer Phone is available from Best Buy, the retailer will likely have models in-stock that customers can spend some time with before they decide whether or not they want to purchase the Razer Phone.

It merits mentioning here, though, that the press release announcing the availability of the Razer Phone at Best Buy doesn’t say whether or not the retailer’s stores will have demonstration units of the handset available.

The company also said that it’s discounting the handset to $599.99 for a 24-hour flash sale and that the handset will be available at this discounted price from Amazon, Microsoft, Best Buy, and Razer’s online store for customers in North America.

If you’re planning to purchase this handset from Best Buy, do remember that the retailer is running a similar $100-off promotion which brings down the price of the unlocked, off-contract Razer Phone to $599. The Best Buy listing for the Razer Phone is live now.

Standalone Lenovo Mirage Solo Headset And VR Camera Now Available

The Lenovo Mirage Solo and Mirage Camera were first unveiled back in January this year. The former is a standalone virtual reality headset that’s powered by Google’s Daydream virtual reality platform. The Lenovo Mirage Camera, billed as the first camera built specifically for VR180 and VR capture in mind, is now available for purchase as well.

The Lenovo Mirage Solo headset will make it easier for people to experience virtual reality through the Daydream platform. That’s because there aren’t a lot of Android-powered handsets out there right now with support for this platform. Since the standalone headset has all of the components it needs to power a VR experience within its body, there’s no need for users to hook up the headset with a smartphone or another device.

The specifications of this headset include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor and a QHD display. It even has support for advanced positional tracking which allows players to walk, lean, etc in virtual reality.

It’s a bit on the expensive side, though. The Lenovo Mirage Solo costs $400 which is double than the Oculus Go, another standalone VR headset that was recently released by Oculus. It’s a similar story for the camera as well which costs $300 but some will feet that it’s a justified price to pay for the first VR180 camera. The nifty camera can be used to capture photos and videos that work in virtual reality.
