GM Turns To 3D Printing For More Affordable Electric Car Parts

3D printing is an amazing piece of technology and we’ve seen it used for artsy stuff and also used for medical and industrial purposes, allowing companies to create customized components in a shorter span of time. Now it looks like General Motors (GM) will be leveraging that technology to help advance its electric car efforts.

The company has announced that they will be working with design software company Autodesk to manufacture 3D printed components for its electric cars. This is supposed to be a quicker and more affordable method compared to conventional methods. GM gave an example of how they 3D printed a stainless steel seat bracket which if they had gone through conventional methods, would require eight different components made by several suppliers.

Instead the end result was a seat bracket that consists of one part and is also apparently 40% lighter and 20% stronger than if they had used the conventional method. GM has been using 3D printing for a while now, but mostly for prototyping purposes. However the company is aiming for high-end, motorsports applications, and that in the next 5 years or so, they are hoping to be able to 3D print tens of thousands of parts at scale.

In the long run 3D printing is also expected to reduce tooling costs, the amount of materials needed, and also the number of suppliers required.

AT&T Could Skip LG G7 In Favor Of LG V35 ThinQ

LG’s latest flagship smartphone the LG G7 ThinQ has been launched, but if you were hoping to get your hands on the phone from carriers such as AT&T, you could be out of luck because according to a report from AndroidHeadlines, the carrier will be skipping on the LG G7 in favor of an AT&T-exclusive handset, the LG V35 ThinQ.

The publication has also shared what appears to be a rendering of the upcoming handset, showing off a phone with a full-sized screen and extremely thin bezels. Interestingly enough the notch design is not present which is odd considering that LG had previously conducted a survey which found that the majority of users did not hate the notch design.

It is unclear if the LG V35 will be the second flagship phone from LG for this year, or if it could just be AT&T’s answer to the LG G7. The report from AndroidHeadlines does mention that there have been rumors suggesting the launch of the LG V35 followed by the LG V40 later this year which we suppose could be a possibility.

As to the specs of the LG V35 ThinQ, it is rumored to sport a 6-inch QHD+ OLED “FullVision” display, a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, AI capabilities (hence the ThinQ branding), dual rear-facing cameras, and a fingerprint sensor. Chances are given that this is meant to be a flagship model, we’re probably looking at the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset as well.

2018 Battlefield Game Could Be ‘Bad Company 3’

So Activision has already confirmed that we will be getting a new Call of Duty game later this year, and the question is what about EA’s Battlefield? Will we be seeing a new Battlefield game this year? Unlike Call of Duty, Battlefield hasn’t always been an annual release, but at the same time we reckon a new installment in the franchise is due.

According to a report from Power-Up Gaming, it seems that 2018’s Battlefield could be in the works and could actually be Bad Company 3. The last time we saw a Bad Company Battlefield game was back in 2010 with Bad Company 2, and before that in 2008 with the original launch of Bad Company.

This means that it has been about 8 years since the last Bad Company game, something that fans of the series might be excited at the prospect of. How did they chance upon this information? According to the report, this is based on a tweet by a certain Abbas Alrubaie on Twitter, who is a DICE LA employee.

His account has since been made private which only fuels the speculation that he might have been right. His tweet also lines up with leakster AlmightyDaq who had also previously claimed that 2018’s Battlefield will be Bad Company 3. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but with Battlefield 1’s monthly updates coming to an end, it does seem to signal that a new Battlefield game could be on its way and hopefully we’ll have more details soon, such as at E3 2018.
