Xiaomi Officially Expanding Into More Western Markets

Ahead of its initial public offering filing which could very well be the world’s biggest IPO since Alibaba went public in 2014, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi today announced that it’s officially expanding into other markets in the West. The company has largely been limited to China and Asian markets but has been working hard to expand its presence in the West.

Xiaomi has announced that its smartphones will soon be available in the United Kingdom and more European markets. CK Hutchison, a conglomerate based in Hong Kong, owns one of the UK’s biggest mobile networks Three UK. That network will now be carrying Xiaomi smartphones.

Many of Xiaomi’s other products will make their way to these markets as well. They include smart bikes, smart TVs, air purifiers, rice cookers, and more. The company hasn’t confirmed as yet which of these smart products will also be released in these markets.

These devices will be sold through the 3 Group’s stores in European markets such as Italy, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, and Sweden. 3 Group is the parent company of Three UK. A.S. Watson’s Fortress, Superdrug and Kruidvat located in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands will carry these products as well.

Despite being one of the fastest-growing smartphone manufacturers on the market, Xiaomi is yet to break in the United States. It may enter the market this year as Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said last month that the company is looking to sell its smartphones in the United States by the end of 2018.

Google Now Launcher Finally Bites The Dust

If you have used an Android smartphone ever then you will certainly be familiar with the Google Now launcher. It was the first public launcher that Google released and it was shipped on the company’s Nexus handsets. Countless Android devices also had it because the Google Now launcher was included in the Google Mobile Service package that Android device manufacturers have to use. Google announced in February last year that it was going to retire its first launcher and that has finally happened over a year after the initial announcement.

A lot has changed in Android since the days of the Google Now launcher. Many of the features that were included in it have since been added to countless third-party launchers. Nonetheless, it was out of place on Android in this day and age which is why Google announced its retirement in February 2017.

The Google Now launcher remained compatible with many Android smartphones over the past 12 months or so but the supported devices were gradually dropped and at last on May 2nd, 2018, the Google Now launcher dropped support for any and all recent Android smartphones. The only devices listed as supported are the Pixelbook on which you can’t use the launcher in the first place and the BlackBerry KeyOne for some odd reason.

Godspeed, Google Now Launcher. You have served us well.

Fix For Windows 10 Chrome Freezing Issue Being Developed

Microsoft released the new Windows 10 April 2018 Update a couple of days ago and since then many who installed this update have complained about device freezing and crashing when using Google Chrome. You can imagine that this presents a problem for many users as Google Chrome is the most widely used mobile browser out there. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and has confirmed that it’s developing a fix for the Windows 10 Chrome freezing issue.

Microsoft has had to put up with several issues presented by the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. It actually had to delay the update’s release last month when some Blue Screen of Death issues popped up at the last moment. It’s now having to deal with Chrome freezing issues and there have also been reports of bugs in the “Hey Cortana” feature.

Many Chrome users had complained about device freezing and crashing issues after they installed the latest update. Microsoft has now confirmed that it’s aware of the issues which are causing Windows 10 devices to lock up when using Chrome. The company says that it’s trying to fix these issues by next week’s Patch Tuesday which is due May 8th.

It has offered a couple of workarounds in the meantime that those who are suffering these issues can use. If they’re using a laptop, they can try closing and opening the lid. If they’re on a desktop, they can simultaneously press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B to wake the screen.

Tablet users can simultaneously press both the volume-up and volume-down buttons, three times within 2 seconds. If the OS is still response it will sound a short beep and the screen will dim or blink as Windows attempts to refresh the screen.
