Internet search giant Google has reportedly been working on a new social gaming startup called “Arcade” quietly. It’s said to be part of the company’s efforts to nurture new startups under its umbrella. Michael Sayman is reportedly the founder and co-owner of Arcade. The 21-year-old joined Facebook as an intern when he was 17 and left the social networking giant to join Google just last year. Arcade’s first app is expected to arrive this summer and is likely going to have some elements of a trivia game.
A spokesperson for Google confirmed to Bloomberg that Arcade does exist and that it’s “focused on mobile gaming with friends.” The spokesperson didn’t provide any details on specific products or projects, though, just adding that “It’s a very early experiment so there aren’t many details to share right now.”
The report adds that Arcade is part of Area 120 which is a division where select Google employees are allowed to work on small startups that exist inside Google. One would expect mobile games in this day and age to have a social network tie-in but the report mentions that Arcade’s game won’t tie-in with any social network. Users will create accounts with their phone numbers.
It remains to be seen, though, when Google’s Arcade will announce its very first mobile game.

Telegram, a secure messaging service, had been working to launch its very own ICO or initial coin offering. It’s a process through which companies can now raise funds by issuing digital coins to investors. It has already conducted a private sale which brought in a substantial amount of money. Many in the crypto game were waiting for the public sale of Telegram’s coins but it appears that Telegram will no longer be doing that.
The first presale took place in February which raised $850 million from 81 investors. The company then raised a similar amount in its second presale in March from 94 investors. Telegram has raised $1.7 billion so far without selling a single digital coin to the public.
It’s not because something went wrong with the ICO that Telegram decided not to go ahead with the public sale. The Wall Street Journal hears from an anonymous source that Telegram won’t be conducting a public sale because the private sale already raised too much money, around $1.7 billion.
One source told the scribe that another reason for not going ahead with the public sale is the stricter regulations on initial coin offerings that have been proposed by Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and other lawmakers.

It was only a few months ago that Nest announced the much-awaited temperature sensor add-on for its smart thermostats. The company had taken pre-orders for the sensors but it has started shipping them just now. Moreover, they’re now available for purchase directly from Nest so those who have been waiting to pick one up can now do so from the Nest store or through the Google Store.
The sensor itself is not much bigger than a puck and it can be mounted on a wall. The battery can last for two years so you can mount it and then forget about it for quite some time. It then connects to a compatible Thermostat using Bluetooth LE and transmits temperature information.
The Nest Temperature Sensor can’t accomplish anything on its own. To use it, one must own the latest Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E. If you have the first-generation or second-generation thermostats from the company then you’re out of luck because they’re not compatible with the sensor.
Nest is selling these sensors for $39 a pop. To provide additional value, the company is selling a three-pack for $99. However one can only get their money’s worth with this three-pack if they have a house that’s large enough to have three independently temperature-monitored rooms.
It’s now available for purchase directly from the Nest and the Google store.
