ATM machines have tens of thousands of dollars in them which is why the utmost care is taken when manufacturing them to ensure that nobody can get inside the machine easily and steal the money. Perhaps they should have thought about rats as well. A rodent was able to find its way inside an ATM machine in India where it chewed up bank notes worth $18,500 and then died.
The ATM in question was out of order for a couple of days and when bank technicians opened it to inspect what had happened, they were surprised to find out that all of the notes inside were shredded. They also found a dead rat inside.
It appears that the rat found its way inside the machine through a small hole that was meant for wires. Once it was inside the machine, it apparently chewed on the bank notes until it couldn’t anymore. The rat died from eating too much money it seems.
It wasn’t a total loss for the bank, though, as the ATM had $42,685 worth of currency inside out of which the technicians were able to recover almost $25,000 intact.
“We have started an investigation into this rare incident and will take measures to prevent a recurrence,” said Chandan Sharma, the branch manager at the State Bank of India’s Tinsukia location.

Google has taken concrete steps over the years to clamp down on the spread of malware-infused apps through the Play Store and other portals. It has now made a minor yet significant change to the Play Store which may go a long way in improving security on the platform. It’s now adding a “small amount” of security metadata to Android APKs so that it can be ensured that apps have been distributed through the Play Store or any other approved channel.
The security metadata that Google will be adding to apps will allow users to verify an app even when they’re not connected to the internet. Lots of people rely on portals other than the Play Store to get apps. They may use them for a variety of reasons, including downloading apps that are not available in their region or country.
The addition of the metadata means that users who download apps from third-party portals will be able to check if they’re authentic and not a modified app that contains malware which can infect their phone.
The metadata will also allow apps from approved distributors to work with Google Play Store features such as subscriptions and family library. Android will be able to read the metadata automatically and verify that the app is legitimate.

Having streamlined its regulations for digital devices about a year ago, the FDA has now approved a continuous glucose monitoring sensor that can be implanted into the patient’s body. This continuous glucose monitoring system called Eversense transmits data from a sensor implanted into the patient to a paired mobile app which lets users see their glucose levels on their mobile device. This is the first sensor of its kind that has been approved by the FDA.
The approval for the Eversense system came following a 125-person study which reported that less than one percent of the study’s participants reported serious adverse reactions to the implant.
One big caveat is that the sensor may only be implanted and retrieved by qualified medical professionals. Once it’s implanted, the sensor can stay in the body for up to 90 days. That’s far longer than many external sensors that often have to be removed in less than two weeks.
The sensor is placed inside the patient’s skin and has a fluorescent chemical coating which produces light when it’s exposed to glucose. It can then read whether the levels are high or low and then send measurements to the paired app in five minute intervals.
Another study will be conducted post-approval but an FDA advisory committee has unanimously recommended that the system’s benefits far outweigh the risks.

Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man now, starred in the first movie in the rebooted franchise called Spider-Man: Homecoming. He recently reprised his role in Avengers: Infinity War. He was prone to revealing spoilers about the movie that he wasn’t supposed to during the press tour so much so that it became a major talking point during the cast’s appearance on talk shows and press junkets. Marvel appears to have leveraged that publicity to reveal the full title of the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel.
Holland “accidentally” revealed the title of the upcoming movie in a post on his Instagram account. The post is actually about not having any new information about the sequel other than that he has just been handed the script. That’s when you see the full title on the iPad that he holds up for a second.
The next movie will be called Spider-Man: Far From Home. No further information is available about this movie and if you’ve watched Infinity War, then you will certainly be interested in finding out how this Marvel/Sony collab will take the story forward.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is scheduled to be released on July 5th, 2019. We’ll obviously be hearing more information about the movie before that.
