Apple Teams Up With Sesame Workshop For Kids’ Shows

While there is clearly a market for video content aimed at teens or adults (Netflix and Hulu are great examples of capitalizing on that), there is also a huge market out there for shows designed to entertain kids. YouTube is aware of this to the extent of launching a version of YouTube dedicated to kids.

Now according to a report from Variety, it has been reported that Apple has teamed up with the folks at Sesame Workshop to create original kids’ shows. However given the emphasis on originality, the bad news is that parents who were hoping that Sesame Street would be part of this deal will be disappointed to learn that it won’t. Instead Sesame Street will continue their deal with HBO as well as air on PBS.

That being said, this deal will see Sesame Workshop produce both live-action and animated video content, along with a new puppet series for Apple. Details about the shows are scarce, but if anything it is a sign of Apple’s growing interest in obtaining video content for its upcoming streaming service.

We have heard that Apple is planning its own streaming service and while we’ve seen the company secure quite a few big names from Hollywood, details are next to none on how Apple plans on launching it, but hopefully we’ll have those details in the near future.

Fortnite Has Reportedly Made $100 Million On iOS

Battle royale style games have really picked up in popularity these days and Epic’s Fortnite Battle Royale is a prime example of that. The game has reportedly managed to rake in 125 million players to date, which in part could be thanks to it launching on mobile which helped make the game even more popular and accessible than it already was.

Now according to new data from Sensor Tower, it has been revealed that Fortnite for iOS has managed to make a whopping $100 million since its launch earlier this year. Note that Fortnite is a free-to-play game which means that the money Epic has made has been pretty much through in-app transactions. Also this is for the mobile version of the game, meaning that the total amount of money Epic has made could be higher when you factor in the other platforms.

Fortnite has also recently made its way onto the Nintendo Switch where it was downloaded 2 million times in the first day alone. The game has also yet to launch on Android which is scheduled for this summer, which means that we can expect to see even greater numbers once the game has been launched.

Pending the Android launch, this means that Fortnite is essentially playable on every platform such as the PC, the Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.

TP-Link’s Latest Mesh Router Is Also A Smart Home Hub

For those new to smart home devices, how it connects to each other and to your phone is through a smart hub. This is a separate device that you’ll need to get and is also one of the problems with smart home devices as each brand would prefer if you got their hub, which means that it adds up to quite a lot of devices.

However it seems that TP-Link is hoping to streamline it a bit with the launch of a new mesh router which also combines a smart home hub. This means that it is essentially a two-in-one device which could cut down on the clutter. Dubbed the Deco M9 Plus, this will combine a router with a smart home hub that will allow users to connect ZigBee, Bluetooth, and WiFi-enabled devices to it. It will also work together with a bunch of brands (the compatibility list can be found on TP-Link’s website) and according to the company, it will also be compatible with Alexa and IFTTT.

Given that it is a mesh router as well, it means that even if users have no need for the hub feature, they can still use it for networking purposes and place it around their homes for WiFi coverage. The Deco M9 Plus will be priced at $300 for a two-pack, or if you just need a single unit it will retail for $179.
