LEGO Voltron Defends the Blocky Universe

LEGO has confirmed the launch of an awesome new kit that started as a LEGO Ideas project by Voltron fan len_d69. The official LEGO Voltron is a gigantic 2,321-piece lit that lets you build up the Defender of the Universe. This thing is massive and very cool, and it’s the biggest LEGO Ideas concept to go into production so far.

You’ll build five lions, all of which can be combined to build the giant robot complete with sword and shield. The completed mech measures over 15″ tall, and his sword alone is 11″ long. Once assembled, Voltron even has a posable head, shoulders, arms and wrists.

The kit is 21311 and will go on sale in Europe and the US on August 1, 2018 for $179.99 from the LEGO store. If you happen to be attending San Diego Comic-Con in July, you might be able to score one a little early.

SpaceX CRS-15 launch a huge success with ISS-bound AI onboard

In the pre-dawn hours of this morning, SpaceX launched its 15th International Space Station resupply mission. The mission, known as CRS-15, is notable for more reasons than one, but it’s particularly exciting because both the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft have been used in previous launches. The Dragon capsule is taking more than 5,900 pounds of research, hardware, and … Continue reading

Qualcomm paves way to bundled wireless headphones

First the headphone jack disappeared, next the headphone cables altogether: at least, if Qualcomm has its way with a new Bluetooth audio chip. Announced today, the Qualcomm QCC3026 may not have a name that’s music to the ears, but it promises to make wireless headphones cheaper and more reliable – to the point where they’re likely to supplant the bundled … Continue reading

Fortnite Gets Four-Player Playground Practice Mode

Given how popular Fortnite Battle Royale is, it’s not surprising that many are flocking to the game to see what all the fuss is about. Of course this also means that many newbies to the game will inevitably find themselves in situations where they’ll be outmatched by more seasoned players.

The good news is that Epic is doing something about it by launching a four-player Playground practice mode. This is essentially a shrunken down version of the main game where you get to play with three other friends. This means that players will be able to play and practice their skills before joining main games, ideal for those who are new to the game.

They will also be given up to an hour to play without having to worry about the storm which will only begin closing in during the final five minutes of a match. While ideal for beginners, we reckon that the Playground will also be a good fit for seasoned players who are looking to further hone their skills or to safely test out new strategies.

The Playground will be part of the v4.5 patch that was recently rolled out to the game, although as Epic notes on Reddit, the feature is down for now but they are working on getting it back up.

Take a Mario Kart Tour of Japan

Lets a go! MariCar is a Japanese company that offers Mario Kart inspired tours of three different Japanese cities: Tokyo, Osaka and Okinawa. If you haven’t already read enough and gone to book a flight to Japan, we actually have more to say about it.

You can dress up in Nintendo character costumes and others, before climbing in a street-legal go-kart for a guided tour of each city. Anyone with an international driving permit or a valid Japanese driver’s license can join the tour. You’ll hit speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour.

Just be aware that this isn’t going to be a crazy chaotic race. You have to obey all of the traffic laws. That means that if you actually do throw a banana peel, you’ll probably end up in jail dressed like Mario. Still, it sounds like a fun time, and a Japanese jail may be a risk I’m willing to take.

First, I’ve gotta get that international driver’s permit, then I have to book a flight. And where does one buy koopa shells anyway? I can get plenty of bananas.

Nintendo Working To Improve Switch eShop Curation

If you take a look at the Nintendo Switch’s eShop, it is rather basic in terms of design and layout, where games are separated into those that are upcoming and those that are available. It’s not a particularly terrible design, but at the same time many Switch owners can agree that it could stand to be improved upon.

Thankfully Nintendo doesn’t appear to be oblivious to the feedback from its customers, because according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, he says that the company is working on improving it, especially on the curation front. Speaking to Waypoint, Fils-Aime was quoted as saying, “Improving curation is something that we’re committed to do and we’ve just taken some steps.”

He also points to how Nintendo has already introduced two new categories to the Switch’s eShop, such as separating games that are sold physically or those that are only available digitally. According to Fils-Aime, “We’ve added two new “shelves,” essentially two new categories for you to use to find the content you want. One is an overall best selling category. The other one is a digital only best seller, because from a Nintendo perspective we make our products available dual distribution, and an independent developer might not.”

Are these changes going to be good enough? We suppose only time will tell based on how players engage with it.
