Elon Musk and his companies may always make headlines, but it isn’t always in a good light. Tesla, in particular, is already in hot water for the problematic Model 3 productions. While ZTE is fighting for survival in the US, fellow Chinese company Huawei is also struggling in Australia. While the consequences of losing this battle is less likely to make Huawei fold, it is still a slippery slope that could see Huawei’s foothold in more markets around the world. Just like in the US, Australia’s rivaling political parties seem to … Continue reading
In a way it is a little ironic when you think about how when smartphones were on the rise, developers were rushing to bring desktop apps onto mobile. For example services that were typically accessed via the desktop, such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Skype, and so on were quickly given mobile apps.
However fast forward to today, a lot of those mobile apps now have desktop counterparts, such as WhatsApp, LINE, KakaoTalk, and more. In fact it looks like Google is joining the crowd with the launch of Android Messages for the web. “Today and over the next week, we’ll begin rolling out Messages for web, one of our top-requested features that lets you send and receive texts from your computer.”
“To get started, select ‘Messages for web’ in the menu of your Messages mobile app. On Messages for web, you can send stickers, emoji, and attach images in addition to sending text.” Note that Android Messages for the web isn’t Google’s foray into launching desktop versions of its messaging apps.
Previously Google had also launched Allo for web but we guess for those who use Android Messages, then this could be a feature worth checking out. As Google states, the rollout will be staggered so if you don’t see it available yet, not to worry as it should eventually find its way to you.

Sorting photos back in the day used to be quite a chore as you’d have to go through photos manually and group them by yourself. If you don’t keep up with it, chances are you might end up with hundreds, if not thousands of photos to go through which could take forever. These days technology has made it a lot easier.
In fact according to the folks at Android Police, they have noticed that Google has started to roll out a new feature for some Google Photos users where photos are grouped together based on timing and similarity. For example if you were at a birthday party and take a bunch of photos of the birthday person cutting a cake, Google Photos will group those photos together and will also suggest which of the photos might be the best.
Of course “best” is subjective, but as we have seen in the past, Google has been using machine learning to help computers figure out what we as humans consider to be good photos. Obviously you don’t have to take Google’s suggestions if you don’t want to, but for those who are lazy to sort or not too fussed, then this could be a quick and easy solution. It is unclear how widespread the rollout of this feature is, but do keep an eye out for it if it sounds like something you think could be useful.

For a moment it almost felt like Disney’s bid for Fox was almost a done-deal, but recently we have been hearing that Comcast wants in on the action and has actually made a bid of $65 billion for the company. This is versus the $52 billion that Disney had initially offered, meaning that Comcast is willing to pay $13 billion more.
However given the potential of the various franchises under Fox’s banner, plus the return of some of the Marvel characters to Disney, we suppose it’s not surprising that Disney isn’t taking this lying down. In a report from CNBC, Disney is said to be ready to make an increased bid for Fox.
Fox is expected to hold a shareholders meeting this Wednesday to discuss the deal, and if they feel that Comcast’s deal is superior (presumably in other ways not just monetary), Disney will have five days to match (or outbid) Comcast’s $65 billion offer. It is unclear as to who will emerge victorious, so we’ll have to wait and see.
This is actually not the first time that Comcast has expressed interest in Fox. The company had actually made a bid last year but it was rejected due to antitrust concerns. However with the AT&T and Time Warner deal having been approved, it is possible that this deal could go through as well.
