Apple Close To Landing A Deal For An Animated Movie

We know that Apple is interested in getting their hands on original content that they will eventually launch on their platform. So far we’ve heard that the company has managed to land quite a few shows ranging in genre, as well as attracting several big names from Hollywood to star in them.

Now according to a new report from Bloomberg, they have heard that Apple is apparently in talks to secure a deal that would nab them their own animated movie. The report claims that the movie could be made by Cartoon Saloon, an Ireland-based studio. However don’t get your hopes up at seeing it anytime soon because the report claims that the movie has yet to be made and is more than a year away from release, but Apple is said to be interested in securing the distribution rights for the US and other countries.

It is unclear as to how far along the talks are and if Apple will be announcing anything soon, but Bloomberg claims that the deal has yet to be closed and could still fall apart. No word on what the movie could be about, but generally speaking animated movies tend to be received well and could make it appealing for parents and their kids.

As it stands it is also still unclear as to what Apple has planned for their video platform. It’s still anyone’s guess as to how the company plans on launching their video content, whether it will be through existing platforms like Apple Music, Apple TV, or something new.

Valve Could Be Looking For Ways Get Steam Link For iOS Approved

When Valve announced the Steam Link app, it sounded quite promising. After all who wouldn’t want to be able to play PC games on their mobile phones, right? Unfortunately the launch on iOS did not go the way Valve had hoped and Apple rejected the app, citing “business conflicts”, although there were no specifics given.

However it seems that Valve could be looking for ways to ensure that Steam Link on iOS is approved. According to Touch Arcade, they have discovered that an update to the Steam Link iOS beta has removed the ability to make in-app purchases. This means that gamers who wanted to purchase games had to do so via the Steam app on their computers.

As Touch Arcade points out, one of Apple’s guideline involves the UI of apps, where, “The UI appearing on the client does not resemble an iOS or App Store view, does not provide a store-like interface, or include the ability to browse, select, or purchase software not already owned or licensed by the user.”

It is possible that by removing in-app purchases, Apple could approve the app to be launched on iOS. However it would be odd if that was the reason. This is because Apple gets a pretty decent cut from in-app purchases, and considering how big Steam is, they would have stood to gain a lot of money. Either way we’ll have to wait and see if this does anything to speed up the approval process.

WhatsApp Will Stop Supporting iOS 7 In 2020

Considering that iOS 12 will be released later this year, this means that iOS 7 was about five years ago. While it’s safe bet that the majority of iOS users are probably already on the latest version of iOS, WhatsApp has since updated its support where they state that the app will no longer support iOS 7 in 2020.

To be more specific, they will stop support iOS 7 and older come 1st February, 2020. This is still a couple of years away and to WhatsApp’s credit, this means that they would have supported iOS 7 for about 7 years by the time support does come to an end. This is pretty decent and like we said, the nature of iOS updates usually means that there are many who have probably updated and upgraded by then.

The post also states that they will stop supporting Android Gingerbread in 2020, and the Nokia S40 after the 31st of December, 2018 which we guess shouldn’t be surprising. Either way this news doesn’t come as a surprise in general, but in case for whatever reason you still have an iOS device running on iOS 7 or older in 2020, note that WhatsApp will no longer be supported on it.
