Samsung Chromebook Plus (V2) keeps the S-Pen and adds a second camera

Samsung has announced a refresh of its Chromebook Plus, which we were first introduced to last year. We shouldn’t expect just a rehash of last year’s model, however, as Samsung seems to making some fairly significant changes in 2018’s device. We also don’t have very long to wait before it’s available, as Samsung is launching the Plus (V2) before the … Continue reading

'Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!' doesn't feel like a remake

Those of us that have enjoyed the series since Red know an uncomfortable truth: Nintendo doesn’t have to do much to sell us on a Pokémon game. Millions of us had formative experiences playing the Gen I titles, and since then we’ve obediently p…

Samsung’s Gear S4 Smartwatch May Be Released This August

Recent reports have suggested that Samsung is working on a new smartwatch which may be launched as the successor to the Gear S3. This is why it’s currently referred to as the Gear S4 despite reports that the company is planning to shift its Gear devices to the Galaxy branding as well. A new report claims that Samsung might launch the Gear S4 this August, possibly alongside the Galaxy Note 9 which some believe will be announced on August 9.

The previous two generations of its Gear smartwatches were launched at the IFA trade show in Berlin which takes place in September. This year, the company is expected to ditch the IFA stage for its new smartwatch and unveil it alongside the Galaxy Note 9 instead.

Not much is known about the specifications of this new smartwatch but recent reports have suggested that it’s going to be thinner than its predecessor and may even have a bigger battery inside. Other features that are expected to be present include enhanced support for Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant.

Bear in mind, though, that Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about its next-generation smartwatch at this point in time so it would be best to take this information with a grain of salt until there’s more to go on.

PlayStation 5 To Reportedly Use AMD’s Zen CPU

Sony hasn’t revealed anything about its next-generation PlayStation console but if a new report is to be believed, the PlayStation 5 will be powered by AMD’s Zen CPU architecture paired with the company’s Navi GPU architecture. The report even mentions that AMD developed the Navi GPU architecture specifically for the PlayStation 5.

Citing anonymous industry sources, Forbes reports that Sony is going to opt for AMD’s Zen CPU and Navi GPU architecture for its next-generation PlayStation console. It merits mentioning here that this is the second time it has been reported that Sony may opt for this architecture.

Sony’s collaboration with AMD for Navi has reportedly been going on for a while, likely during the tenure of Radeon Technologies Group head Raja Koduri’s stint at the company to the extent that AMD’s RX Vega project is believed to have suffered because of it.

The report does mention that it’s unclear right now if AMD is going to build a custom system-on-chip for Sony with the Zen chip or if Sony is going to use separate parts. It’s also not known at this point time whether the GPU is going to be integrated or discrete.

It’s too soon to say right now when Sony might be thinking about launching its next-generation console. The company itself hasn’t dropped any hints to suggest that it may happen in the near future.

South Korean Carrier Starts Selling iPhone 3GS Again

The iPhone 3GS came out nine years ago and is unquestionably outdated to handle many of the tasks that smartphone users throw at their devices every single day. However, a carrier in South Korea has given a new lease on life to the iPhone 3GS as it’s planning to start selling units of this device that are new and unused still in their original packing.

ETNews reports that SK Telink is going to start selling these iPhone 3GS units later this month. They were secured from a warehouse in their original packaging complete with the original accessories. The carrier tested them to ensure that the hardware was still functioning after all these years and found that to be the case.

The iPhone 3GS is unable to run any iteration of the operating system beyond iOS 6 which means that many modern apps will not work on this handset. With Apple having switched to the Lightning connector from the 30-pin connector back in 2012, customers find it hard to get accessories for this handset as well.

The units should be able to perform basic functions such as calls, emails, text messages, photos, music playback, and more. Given that SK Telink will sell the units off-contract for just over $40, this is actually not a bad option for those who just want a basic smartphone.
