Apple Adds Plug And Play Support For HTC Vive Pro To macOS Mojave

Apple detailed macOS Mojave at the Worldwide Developers Conference recently, it’s the next major update for its desktop platform which brings a variety of new features and improvements one of which is improved support for the HTC Vive Pro. Apple has revealed that it has added plug and play support for the HTC Vive Pro virtual reality headset to macOS Mojave.

This is certainly going to make it a lot easier for HTC Vive Pro owners to use their headsets with Mac computers. Apple has worked directly with Valve and HTC to bring plug and play support for the headset to Mojave.

Karol Gasinski of Apple’s GPU Software Architecture Team confirmed during the company’s Metal for VR presentation during WWDC 2018 that the HTC Vivo Pro will get plug and play support for macOS 10.14.

“We’ve been working very closely with both Valve and HTC to make sure Vive Pro is supported in SteamVR runtime on macOS,” Gasinski said.

Even though Apple has announced enhanced support for the headset, it’s actually not going to be available in the initial betas of macOS Mojave. It’s possible that Apple might include it in a future build but it’s unclear as of now how soon the company will begin testing this with the beta builds. It’s not due to release macOS Mojave for users until the fall this year.

Microsoft To ‘Heavily Redesign’ Surface Pro 6, Due Next Year

Microsoft’s Surface Pro lineup has been very well received so far and it appears that the company is looking to kick things up a notch next year with the Surface Pro 6. According to a new report, Microsoft is going to launch a “heavily redesigned” Surface Pro 6 in 2019, assuming that’s what the next product in this lineup will end up being called.

The report doesn’t really go into a lot of detail about what this redesign is going to bring to the table, but it does mention that Microsoft might release refreshed versions of the existing Surface Pro later this year before it introduces the redesigned model in 2019.

The refreshed model is said to feature the latest 8th generation Core processors from Intel. There’s also speculation that Microsoft might release a refreshed Surface Laptop later this year with the latest processors from Intel but there’s no confirmation as yet if this device or the refreshed Surface Pro will get a USB Type-C port.

Recent reports have also suggested that Microsoft is working on cheaper Surface tablets that will cost around $400 to compete with Chromebooks and iPads. It’s not known at this point in time when the company is planning on launching these tablets.
