Uber Also Rumored To Be Getting Into The Scooter Game

Last month it was reported that Lyft could be thinking of getting into the scooter game, and now it seems that Lyft’s rival, Uber, could also be thinking about it. This is according to a report from Axios (via CNET) who claims that Uber has submitted an application to take part in San Francisco’s pilot program.

Uber has yet to comment on the report, but it there is a chance that it could be true as it was previously hinted at by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi during Recode’s Code Conference last week. The CEO revealed that the company was “thinking about alternative forms of transport” and when pressed for details, he was quoted as saying, “Bikes, perhaps scooters.”

It is an interesting move but it wouldn’t be surprising that Uber might want to capitalize on the trend. It has been pointed out that there seems to be a sudden uptick in the amount of scooters seen in San Francisco, largely thanks to three companies – Bird, Lime, and Spin – who claim to have solved the “last mile” problem as far as transportation goes.

What this means is that customers who need to travel a short distance but don’t want to bother with traffic or paying for an Uber now have these scooters as a faster method of transportation compared to walking. It will be interesting to see what Lyft and Uber could potentially offer so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Some Details About Samsung’s Bixby Speaker Leaked

We have been hearing reports that Samsung plans to launch a smart speaker powered by Bixby, but other than the fact that it will feature Bixby as its digital assistant, not much else is known about it. However according to the folks at SamMobile, they might have gotten their hands on some details about the upcoming device.

According to the report, the Bixby speaker is rumored to feature a display. This will allow users to interact with the speaker, such as scrolling through song lists. It is also said to support Spotify where upon setup, users will be able to choose their preferred music service. There will also be the ability to link multiple Bixby speakers together, similar to what we’ve seen from the likes of Sonos and Apple.

The speakers are also said to allow the user to adjust which direction they want the sound to be directed at. It is unclear how this will work, but it has been suggested that WiFi beamforming is one of the methods, or maybe the use of infrared sensors. Other than that, the rest of the speakers will function like regular speakers and Bixby will also function like it would on the phone.

Of course things like sound quality and pricing remain to be seen as those factor into whether or not customers will adopt it, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. No word on when it will be announced, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung were to announce it alongside the Galaxy Note 9, which last we heard could be announced on the 9th of August.

Apparently ASUS Experimented With Putting 10GB RAM Into A Smartphone

These days we’re starting to see companies increase the amount of RAM that goes into a smartphone. On average we’re probably looking at anywhere between 4-6GB of RAM, with one or two exceptions packing 8GB of RAM. However it seems that ASUS might have actually tried fitting 10GB of RAM into a smartphone at some point in time.

This information comes from Roland Quandt of WinFuture.de who wrote that ASUS experimented with a 10GB smartphone, but apparently due to size constraints they could not/did not move forward with it. It is unclear as to which phone they might have been experimenting with, but it’s not hard to imagine that it could have been the recently announced ASUS ROG Phone.

https://www.sammobile.com/2018/06/07/exclusive-bixby-speaker-features

For those unfamiliar, the ASUS ROG Phone is a smartphone designed for gamers. This follows in the footsteps of companies such as Razer and Xiaomi, both of whom have launched smartphones aimed at gamers. To think that ASUS might want to put 10GB of RAM into the ROG Phone really doesn’t seem like much of a stretch, but it seems that they didn’t, although 8GB of RAM is admittedly plenty already.

In any case we wouldn’t be surprised if in the future we might see more phones with 8GB or 10GB of RAM, but one has to wonder if we might have gotten to a point where we might actually have more RAM than we really need.
