Amazon Launches 4K Fire TV Cube With Alexa

Amazon is expanding its lineup of Fire TV products today with the Fire TV Cube. It appears that this product is the replacement for the high-end Fire TV that Amazon released back in 2015 and last year’s Fire TV Stick. As is the case with most Amazon hardware products these days, Alexa is baked into the Fire TV Cube which also offers the same far-field voice recognition that Amazon’s Echo devices do.

The Fire TV Cube is a 4K UHD streaming media player that features Alexa. The built-in microphones with far-field voice recognition will enable users to control their TV from across the room. They can simply give Alexa commands to power the TV on and off, change the channels, adjust the volume, change the cable channel and more.

The device is also compatible with set-top boxes from Comcast, DISH, and DirecTV. It will let users control their live TV experience with voice commands through those boxes. Streaming apps like Hulu and PlayStation Vue are supported as well.

Alexa’s responses on the Fire TV Cube will be optimized for the big screen and accompanied by rich visual information. Users will be able to watch video flash briefings, their smart home camera feeds, sports scores, weather forecasts, and much more.

Amazon Fire TV Cube is available for pre-order starting today for $19.99 and it will ship on June 21st. Those who have a Prime membership can pre-order it on June 7th and June 8th for a special price of $89.99.

BlackBerry Key2 Officially Launched, Price Confirmed

We have heard countless reports over the past couple of months that TCL will soon be launching a new BlackBerry-branded smartphone. The leaks had revealed that this device will be called the BlackBerry Key2 and as the name suggests, it would be a successor to the BlackBerry KeyOne. TCL’s BlackBerry Mobile division has officially launched the BlackBerry Key2 today and has also confirmed its price.

As expected, the BlackBerry Key2 features a 4.5 ich 1620×1080 pixel resolution LCD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB RAM, up to 128GB of storage, and a 3,500mAh battery. It also happens to be the first BlackBerry-branded handset to feature a dual 12 megapixel rear camera system. There’s also an 8 megapixel camera up front. The device will ship with Android 8.1 out of the box.

The device has a full QWERTY keyboard like its predecessor but the key spacing has been optimized to provide a more comfortable typing experience. The fingerprint sensor is located underneath the space button and there’s also a new “Speed Key” on the keyboard through which users can trigger any of the 52 shortcuts they have assigned to the other keys. BlackBerry’s portfolio of apps such as DTK and BBM will be onboard.

The company has confirmed that this handset is going to be released in the coming weeks but a precise date hasn’t been provided as yet. It hasn’t even confirmed if there’s going to be a CDMA variant for the U.S. like there was for the KeyOne last year. What we do know is that this handset is going to cost $649 which is $100 more than its predecessor.
