Apple’s Digital Wellness Initiative Parodied As The iPhone Basic

At WWDC 2018, Apple unveiled their digital wellness initiative which is basically Apple’s way of helping users reduce the amount of time they spend on their phones. However it seems that late night talk show host Conan O’Brien has decided to create a parody of Apple’s plans, resulting in a hilarious device called the iPhone Basic. If you have a minute or so to spare, then it could be worth checking out in the video above.

For those learning about Apple’s plans for the first time, basically Apple announced that with iOS 12, they would be including new features and tools to help users manage their screen time. For example users could set a time limit on how many minutes/hours they can spend on a particular app a day, and when that time limit is maxed out, they will be reminded.

They can also check a graph that shows how long they’ve spent on certain apps, and how it compares to the week before so that they can track their progress. It is also to help parents manage the screentime of their kids, where parents can create “down time” to lets kids know which apps they should not open while down time is active, such as on a school night or when it’s close to exam season.

Apple Still Has No Plans For A Touchscreen Mac

Over the years as Apple started introducing more features that would sync across both iOS and macOS devices, naturally questions have arisen as to whether or not we could see some kind of hybrid device in the future, such as a Mac computer that supports touchscreen. Apple has denied those rumors for years, and it seems that their stance hasn’t changed.

In an interview with WIRED, Apple’s SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi has revealed that Apple still does not have plans for a touchscreen Mac. He was quoted as saying, “We really feel that the ergonomics of using a Mac are that your hands are rested on a surface, and that lifting your arm up to poke a screen is a pretty fatiguing thing to do. I don’t think we’ve looked at any of the other guys to date and said, how fast can we get there?”

He also feels that the current offerings are particularly compelling, calling them “experiments”. According to Federighi, “I don’t think we’ve looked at any of the other guys to date and said, how fast can we get there?” Instead what Apple seems to be doing is trying to get iOS apps to run on Mac but instead of relying on touch, they are looking to create a framework that will translate current touch commands into input commands on the keyboard or mouse.

Galaxy Note 9 renders show an unexpected design direction

Alleged Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Renders Leaked

Apart from the Google Pixel 3 and the 2018 iPhones, one of the more highly-anticipated smartphones that we are expecting to see this year is the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. There have been rumors about the handset that have found their way online, but now it looks like renders of the handset have leaked as well.

This is thanks to the folks at 91mobiles who collaborated with leakster @OnLeaks who cooked up the renders of the upcoming phone. It is unclear as to how accurate these renders are, but @OnLeaks has had a pretty decent track record so far, so it is possible that they could be somewhat accurate.

Now assuming these renders are accurate, on the surface it appears that there is no dramatic design overhaul made to the handset as it still looks very much like its predecessor. We can see the slot at the bottom in which the S Pen will go, and thankfully it looks like Samsung will continue to keep the headphone jack on the phone.

The back of the phone also reveals a dual camera setup, a fingerprint scanner, while the front of the phone will continue to be edge-to-edge. Other than that it’s a bit hard to tell how big the phone actually is, although the rumors are saying it will maintain its 6.3-inch display. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we have heard that the Note 9 could be announced earlier than expected on the 9th of August, so check back with us then for the details.

Parrot Unveils Compact & Foldable Anafi 4K Drone

Drones used to be pretty big and bulky, and drone pilots who wanted to use their drones typically had special cases that they had to keep their drones in. However companies such as DJI started to introduce more compact drones, like the Mavic Air, but now it looks like Parrot might have an answer to it with the recently announced Parrot Anafi.

Parrot is a company that has made their fair share of drones in the past, so the company does have some experience on that front. With the Anafi, Parrot is promising a drone that is compact and that can also be folded, meaning that bringing it with you on trips shouldn’t be too troublesome as you could in theory slip it into a bag.

The drone will also come with a camera attached to it. This will allow it to capture photos and videos, such as 4K video of up to 30fps, but if you wanted something smoother, dropping it down to 1080p will allow users to capture footage at 60fps. It will pack a 21MP sensor, a 180-degree tilt gimbal, and zoom of up to three times. There is also body recognition technology which means that the drone can track users as they move.

According to Parrot, the Anafi will boast a flight time of 25 minutes on a single charge, but the good news is that the battery can be removed which means that you’ll be able to slot in a new one and keep on flying. As for pricing, we’re looking at $700 for the drone and $99 for an extra battery, and is expected to be made available come 1st of July.
