If you’re a Mac user, you might be interested to learn that at WWDC 2018, Apple has officially announced the next major update to the macOS platform in the form of macOS Mojave. This will be the latest update to Mac computers which will be expected to officially be released in the later part of the year during the fall.
Now right off the bat, one of the more obvious changes that we’re seeing to macOS is the introduction of Dark Mode. This is actually something we heard about very recently which was actually leaked by Apple themselves, but it’s always good to get official confirmation. As with other dark modes that we’ve seen in other apps, it basically gives your entire Mac a dark look that will be easier on the eyes at night, or if you simply prefer the way it looks.
Apple states that this will be applied across the entire OS and will be applied to native apps such as Mail, Messages, Maps, Calendar and Photos. As for third-party apps, Apple will be making the API available if they wish to include it in their apps as well. In addition to Dark Mode, Mojave will also introduce a Stacks feature that will help stack files into groups based on file type. This means that cluttered desktops will be a thing of the past (hopefully).
There were also rumors of Apple bringing a News app onto macOS and it looks like those rumors were true. There will be a News app available for macOS as well as other apps from iOS, such as Stocks, Voice Memos, and the Home app which allows users to control HomeKit-enabled smart appliances.
macOS Mojave will also support group FaceTime calls, a feature that was also recently announced for iOS 12, along with a brand new Mac App Store. In terms of compatibility, macOS Mojave will be available on all Mac computers introduced in mid-2012 or later, and 2010 and 2012 Mac Pro models that have Metal-capable GPUs.
