Gboard Testing Smart Replies For Various Messaging Apps

One of the nifty features that we’re seeing Google roll out to its services is smart replies, where based on the context, Google can offer up smart replies that you can fire off at a tap of a button. This feature has been introduced to Google products such as Gmail, and now it looks like Gboard will be getting it as well.

According to a report from XDA, it has been revealed that Google is testing out smart replies on Gboard for use within other messaging apps. For those unfamiliar, Gboard is Google’s keyboard app that can be found on Android and iOS devices. Based on the discovery, it seems that the smart reply feature is being tested on apps such as Android Messages, Facebook Messenger (and Messenger Lite), Allo, Hangouts, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and WeChat.

This isn’t exactly a ground breaking feature but it is one of convenience. Sometimes there are some messages that need acknowledgement, but instead of having to type it out completely, smart replies can let users choose from pre-selected messages that are appropriate to the message that was sent.

However it seems that this feature is currently in testing and there’s no way of knowing when it is expected to be made available to all users, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.

8BitDo Unveils New Wireless Controller For The NES Classic

If you have been itching to get your hands on the NES Classic, you’ve probably heard that the console is available for purchase starting today. Now one of the gripes that some players have is that the controllers that are bundled with the console are wired, which while we suppose does keep to the retro theme, can be somewhat limiting.

Thankfully if you don’t mind investing a bit of money, the folks at 8BitDo have unveiled a set of wireless controllers that you can use with the NES Classic. The layout of the controller is slightly different compared to the traditional controller where the buttons are arranged in a square, versus the NES cross, but other than that it shouldn’t feel too different.

As for pricing, it is set at $25 per controller which means that you’ll need to buy two if you want your friend to enjoy wireless gaming as well. As MobileSyrup points out, there could be a bit of demand for such a controller, namely because the NES Classic’s controller only has a cord length of 2.5 feet versus 5 feet of the original.

This makes it somewhat limiting and we’re sure that gamers would prefer having a bit more mobility. If 8BitDo’s controller is of interest to you, the company is currently accepting pre-orders so head on over to Amazon’s website if you’d like to get your hands on it.

Bethesda Has More Plans For The Nintendo Switch In The Future

If there was one developer/publisher that surprised many when the Nintendo Switch was announced, it was Bethesda. Skyrim was the first game that the company released on the Switch and they have since not slowed down. The company has since released DOOM on the Switch, Fallout Shelter, and Wolfenstein II.

However it seems that the company’s plans for the Switch are far from over. Speaking to Gamereactor, Bethesda’s Todd Howard was quoted as saying, “We think Switch is a great platform – it was the first time we really worked closely with Nintendo on Skyrim – and really, really great experience and we’ll certainly be doing more things there in the future, but right now it’s not a mainline Fallout 4.”

Howard’s quote was in response to being asked about the potential for games like Fallout 4 to eventually find its way onto the console. Unfortunately Howard’s response was that this isn’t something that they are looking into right now, but the company does have plans for the future even if it isn’t necessarily Fallout 4.

His response is interesting as you might recall, there has been some interest in seeing older Wolfenstein titles arrive for the Switch, but presumably this will be dependent on how well Wolfenstein II does before Bethesda commits more resources to such endeavors. In the meantime Bethesda’s next release will be Fallout 76 but unfortunately there is no mention of the Switch as being one of its release platforms.

Ubisoft Says Collaborations With Nintendo Will Continue

As much as Nintendo tries to develop and publish their own games, it is a monumental task which is why they usually have to work with outside developers to encourage the development of more games for its platform. So far Nintendo has some interesting collaborations, such as with Ubisoft which resulted in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

For those who loved the collaboration between Nintendo and Ubisoft, you’ll be pleased to learn that this collaboration is expected to continue. Speaking during a Q&A session, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that their collaboration between Nintendo will continue in the future and that they hope that they will be able to surprise gamers with new things.

“It is very strong because we have done many things together in the past. The Nintendo brands and their capacity to create fantastic games is really something that our creators in Ubisoft love, and when they can collaborate with Nintendo they are extremely happy to do so. So yes it will continue, and I hope we will be able to surprise you with new things in the future.”

It is interesting because Ubisoft had a slightly different stance with the Wii U several years ago. The company was initially one of the Wii U’s biggest supporters and launched titles designed specifically for the console. However with sales flopping and reception being tepid, the company ultimately decided to hold back on releasing more titles.

Bethesda Hints That Sony Could Be Blocking Fallout 76 Crossplay

Back in the day games used to be exclusive to their respective platforms, but nowadays we’re starting to see more games open up to be cross-platform, meaning that PC gamers can play with Xbox gamers, Switch gamers play with PC gamers, and so on. Conspicuously missing from the list is Sony.

The company has famously disallowed crossplay between some of today’s biggest games, such as Minecraft, Fortnite, and now it looks like Bethesda’s upcoming Fallout 76 could be next. Speaking to German publication Gamestar.de in an interview, Bethesda’s Todd Howard hinted that Sony could be once again making it difficult for crossplay.

When asked about crossplay, Howard said that he would like to see that happen as it is a big trend in the industry. However he adds that Sony is “not as helpful as everyone would like it.” Like we said given Sony’s stance in the past, it’s not surprising that this is the case. However with every game that Sony is not allowing crossplay, we imagine that dissent will get larger to the point where Sony could be eventually pressured to give in.

Sony has since responded to their critics regarding crossplay support for Fortnite, in which they say that they are confident that they will eventually find a solution that will be “understood and accepted” by their gaming community. That being said considering that Fallout 76 is almost like an MMORPG in nature, it would be a shame if PS4 gamers weren’t able to play with gamers on other platforms.
