Apple May Allow AirPods Case To Charge Your iPhone

Apple is believed to be working on a couple of new AirPods products such as a high-end on-ear model. A recent report claimed that the second-generation in-ear AirPods will feature noise cancelation and water resistance. There’s word on the street now that the next-generation charging case for AirPods will allow users to wirelessly charge their iPhone as well.

The Nikkei Asian Review reports that iPhone users will be able to wirelessly charge their devices using the charging case for AirPods. Apple is expected to release this new charging case for AirPods later this year but the report cautions that the schedule is subject to change.

Apparently, the case will be used for charging iPhones in the same way that the AirPower wireless charging mat would be used. It’s pertinent to mention here that AirPower has still not been released and it likely won’t arrive until September, almost a full year after it was announced.

One should bear in mind that the existing AirPods case has a 398mAh battery while the iPhone X has a 2,716mAh battery. The case simply doesn’t have enough capacity to charge an iPhone X completely.

Perhaps Apple will enable this just to allow users to get some extra charge when they’re in an emergency but just how this would work remains to be seen. For starters, the case would require additional circuitry to be fit inside a small case and then it would be difficult to balance an iPhone on the case as well. So this is likely just wishful thinking from someone in the rumor mill.

LG V40 Said To Feature Five Cameras

LG is due to launch a successor to the V30 later this year and a new report claims that the handset is going to feature five cameras. The handset is tentatively called the LG V40 and it’s also said to bring a face unlock feature. At least two of those five cameras will be on the front and both will possibly be used for this face unlock feature.

AndroidPolice hears from a source familiar with LG’s plans that the V40 is going to feature five cameras. The setup process for the face unlock feature described to the scribe suggests that the two cameras may be used to create a 3D map of the face. If that’s accurate that this feature will be more secure than conventional 2D face unlock solutions.

The remaining three cameras would be at the back, much like how it is on the Huawei P20 Pro, the only triple-camera handset on the market right now. The setup is said to feature a standard wide lens, LG’s ultrawide lens, and a third sensor which will serve an undisclosed purpose. It’s possible that it may be the zoom lens or for providing enhanced depth of field (bokeh) effects.

The LG V40 is also said to have a notched display with the ability to hide the notch as LG G7 users can already do. Other than the five cameras, it will feature the Snapdragon 845 processor, a dedicated Assistant button, and LG’s Quad DAC.

It’s unclear as yet when the only handset to feature five smartphone cameras this year will actually be released.
