Don’t you dare watch this PREDATOR trailer

There’s something to be said for secrecy, and the people behind THE PREDATOR don’t seem to get it. Or at least it would appear that they’ve got a whole lot of faith in the idea that people only watch trailers if they don’t mind being spoiled. Everyone who loves the basic premise of the Predator series should understand at this … Continue reading

Nokia To Release Face Unlock For Four Handsets

HMD Global, the company that makes Nokia-branded smartphones, continues to release improvements for its devices months after they hit the market. It recently launched the Pro Camera mode for the Nokia 8 after promising a few months back that it would release camera improvements for the device. The company has now confirmed that it will soon release the face unlock feature for four of its smartphones.

Face unlock will enable users of the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco to unlock their handsets with facial recognition. It merits mentioning here, though, that this feature won’t be as secure as Apple’s Face ID for example, given that these handsets don’t have any 3D sensors or advanced equipment.

The face unlock feature on these devices will simply rely on the front camera and as we have already seen, it’s possible to easily fool the system. 2D face unlock functionality is more for convenience than it is for security.

That being said, HMD Global has now confirmed that it’s going to release the face unlock feature for the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8, and Nokia 8 Sirocco via an over-the-air update in the coming months. It hasn’t provided a confirmed release date at this point in time, though.

Apple Reportedly Starts iPhone 6s Mass Production Outside China

Apple primarily manufactures its devices in China but it has been manufacturing the iPhone SE in India to avoid steep import duties. India is a price-sensitive market and this move allows the company to better compete with its rivals on price. According to a new report, the company has now started commercial production of another handset in the country.

A local news report claims that Apple has started mass production of the iPhone 6s in India. A Wistron facility where the iPhone SE was previously being manufactured is now being used for mass producing the iPhone 6s as well for sale in the country.

It was reported earlier this year in April that the company had started trial production of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It decided against manufacturing the latter because the iPhone 6s has better sales potential in the country which is why it’s the model that’s now being mass produced.

As it begins to manufacture the iPhone 6s locally, the company will be able to avoid any surges in import taxes which end up raising the price for end customers. Apple has already avoided similar tax hikes on the iPhone SE after the government increased taxes on imported products earlier this year. The company will only be selling the iPhone 6s handsets made in India in the country, though.

Google Home Can Now Speak Spanish

Google Home users who have tried speaking Spanish with Assistant may not have liked its inability to speak in the language but that’s changing starting today. Google today announced that Assistant on Google Home will now allow users to get more done in Spanish. The company gradually started rolling out Spanish support over the past few weeks and Google has now officially confirmed that support for the language is finally here.

Assistant on Google Home is now capable of understanding Spanish so users will be able to ask it to help them out in their tasks in the language, be it streaming music, managing their day or controlling smart home devices.

Users can select the language by going to the Preferences section in the Settings menu of the Google Home app and then selecting Español. Once that’s done, they can ask Assistant about their day with “Ok Google, ¿cómo será mi día?” to get a full rundown of their schedule.

All this and more can now be done across all Google Home products, including the Google Home, Mini, and Max. This isn’t just available for users in the United States, both Google Home and Google Home Mini are also available in Spanish in Mexico and Spain as well.
