Amazon Offering Free Whole Foods Deliveries In NYC And Florida

Amazon has announced an expansion of its Whole Foods grocery delivery service. It’s expanding the service to two additional cities. The Whole Foods grocery delivery service will now be available in Florida and parts of New York City. The company first announced back in February this year that it will start delivering groceries in select cities within two hours.

The grocery delivery service is made possible by Amazon which acquired Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in June last year. The markets which initially got this service include Dallas, Virginia Beach, Cincinnati, and Austin, the hometown of Whole Foods. The service has since been expanded to other markets including Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, San Antonio, Houston, and Minneapolis.

It’s available to Amazon Prime members who can order groceries for delivery within one or two hours. The latter is free but they have to pay $7.99 on orders above $35.

Starting today, Amazon Prime members in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Long Island, lower Manhattan, and Brooklyn will be able to order groceries for delivery through Whole Foods. They can order fresh produce and perishable products such as meats and dairy. “Select alcohol” will be available for delivery as well.

Orders can be placed daily for one and two-hour delivery from 8AM to 10PM. Amazon has set up a handy page to check whether or not the service is available in your area.

Facebook Gets Its Foot In The Door In China

Facebook is one of the many services that’s blocked in China. One of the world’s largest countries is off limits to the world’s largest social network. Facebook remains banned in the country but the company has been able to get its foot in the door in China by launching a subsidiary down in the People’s Republic.

Facebook has obtained a license to open an office in China. The office will house a $30 million subsidiary called Facebook Technology (Hangzhou), which as the name suggests is located in the city of Hangzhou, where the headquarters of Alibaba is also located.

Don’t expect China to ease restrictions on Facebook just because it has opened up a $30 million subsidiary. The purpose of this subsidiary is “to support Chinese developers, innovators and start-ups,” according to Facebook.

It’s essentially running a startup incubator in the country through which it will make small investments into promising startups and also provide advice to local businesses. This isn’t the first startup hub of this kind that Facebook has launched. It already has similar hubs in other markets such as India, South Korea, France, and Brazil.

The subsidiary is wholly owned by Facebook Hong Kong Limited. The social network’s Hong Kong office isn’t subject to the same restrictions as it is on the mainland.
