Alexa Can Now Be Used To Control Equalizer And Sound Settings

Alexa can be used to control all kinds of things around the house as long as they are connected to it and part of the network. This includes lighting, thermostats, locks, and more, but now it looks like Amazon has given Alexa a new set of skills which comes in the form of being able to control equalizer and sound settings on your speakers.

According to Amazon, “Today we are excited to announce equalizer (EQ) and sound mode controls for smart home entertainment devices, available today for customers in the US across the Amazon Echo family of devices, and on select Alexa-enabled devices built using the Alexa Voice Service (AVS). Now customers can personalize the tone of the audio playing on their speakers, AV receivers, and sound bars by simply saying, ‘Alexa, crank up the bass,’ ‘Alexa, turn up treble,’ or ‘Alexa, set TV mode.’”

Some of Alexa’s abilities include adjusting the amount of bass, adjusting the amount of bass in specific rooms around the house, adjusting the treble levels, adjusting the equalizer on specific devices, and also swapping between various “modes” such as night mode, movie mode, and so on.

Given that different genres of music might benefit from different equalizer settings, the ability to use Alexa to change it on the fly sounds like a useful one. Of course not every speaker will be able to take advantage of this new skill, but if you own any of Amazon’s Echo speakers you should be good to go, along with third-party speakers that have Alexa baked into them.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Makes An Appearance On Samsung’s Own Website

Samsung has a new wearable in the works according to both the rumors and a recent FCC filing, but in terms of design, that was still pretty much anyone’s guess until now where it appears that Samsung might have accidentally revealed the upcoming device on their very own website.

In a screenshot saved by Scott Stein at CNET, it shows the upcoming device pictured alongside the Gear S2. It also confirms that Samsung will be dropping the Gear branding in favor of the Galaxy branding, but whether or not this change of branding has deeper implications, such as whether or not it could abandon Tizen OS in favor of Google’s Wear OS remains to be seen.

As for the design, it seems that Samsung hasn’t really made that many changes on that front which is good or bad depending on whether or not you liked the older design to begin with. Note that the listing on the website only shows the 42mm variant. Some of you might recall that the FCC filing revealed that the watch could be offered in more than one size.

Either way we should find out soon enough in the coming weeks as Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9 will be unveiled on the 9th of August, and many speculate that the Galaxy Watch will be announced alongside it.
