OnePlus Is Killing It In The Indian Premium Smartphone Market

Due to the fact that different countries have people with different needs, different priorities, and different budgets, there are reasons why some companies can thrive and why some can’t. Take for example companies such as Nokia and BlackBerry, both of whom continued to thrive in certain markets long after their popularity waned in the US.

Now it seems that over in India, OnePlus is killing it against more established players such as Samsung and Apple. According to the data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, it seems that OnePlus accounts for 40% of the premium smartphone market (defined as phones priced Rs 30,000 and above) in India in the second quarter of 2018.

The report also reveals that OnePlus, Samsung, and Apple accounted for 88% of the overall premium market, and while this seems like a big figure, a quarter ago that figure was 95% so if anything, it seems that some of their market share is being stolen by other competitors from China, such as Huawei and Vivo, along with HMD Global and LG.

Counterpoint’s report also claims that the OnePlus 6 is the best-selling smartphone in the premium market followed by Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and the OnePlus 5T. Neil Shah, Partner and Research Director, IoT, Mobile and Ecosystems, Counterpoint Research was quoted as saying, “The steady focus on high-end flagship smartphones and unprecedented community connect helped OnePlus earn user trust and spread brand awareness through word of mouth.”

Lenovo Claims They Will Be The First To Launch 5G Snapdragon 855 Smartphone

With multiple US carriers planning to begin rolling out 5G to various cities this year, and possibly even blanket the whole of the US next year, it means that smartphone makers need to hurry up and start putting out smartphones that can support 5G, otherwise what’s the point, right? For those who want a 5G smartphone, perhaps Lenovo could be worth considering.

According to Lenovo’s VP Chang Cheng, he claims that Lenovo will be the first in the world to bring a 5G smartphone to the market. He also claims that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset, which has yet to be released but is presumably the company’s next flagship chipset that will also most likely make its way to other flagship smartphones, like Samsung’s Galaxy S10. We’re not sure how Lenovo is so confident that they will be the first, especially since we’re sure that many other companies are racing towards releasing a 5G handset.

Either way this is good news for customers who are on the lookout for a 5G smartphone, but we’ll keep an eye out to see if other companies might beat Lenovo to the punch, but don’t expect it anytime soon since the Snapdragon 855 will most likely find its way into 2019’s smartphones.

Latest Google App Beta Pulled For Repeated Crashes

While getting into a beta always seems exciting because it means that you get to use apps and features that others can’t, there is a downside which is that betas aren’t meant to be used as daily drivers. This means that you should approach betas with the understanding that the app might not work the way you hope it would.

Such is the case with the latest Google app beta for Android, where the app has since been pulled by Google due to multiple reports of users claiming that the app keeps crashing on them. It is unclear as to what the problem might be, but Google has pulled the update for the beta for the time being.

If you are taking part in the beta, the version that is reportedly crashing on users is v8.14.12. As Android Police notes, when Google pulled the update they also updated the Play Store where the version being distributed is v8.12.20.21, so if you uninstall and reinstall the older build you should be fine.

Once again we should point out that this is for the beta of the Google app for Android. Those using the public release of the Google app should not be running into the same issues, or if you are experiencing crashes there is a chance that they might not be related.
