Latest macOS Mojave Beta Lets Users Enable Per-App eGPU Acceleration

While Apple’s MacBook Pros are pretty powerful in their own right, it’s safe to say that these laptops weren’t exactly designed for gaming. However in recent times this has changed with the use of external GPUs (eGPU), such as the Blackmagic eGPU which is the first eGPU sold in Apple’s stores.

Now it looks like eGPUs are getting an improvement in the latest developer beta of macOS Mojave where in a tweet by Filipe Esposito (via 9to5Mac), Apple is now allowing users to enable eGPU acceleration on a per-app basis. What this means is that users won’t have to wonder if the app that they’re using will take advantage of the eGPU and they will be able to enable it manually if they want.

According to the changelogs, it mentions that users will be able to enable acceleration on an eGPU on a display that is connected directly to a Mac, which the good news is that this is applicable on both the iMac and MacBook Pro laptops. That being said, 9to5Mac notes that this is not a new feature per se.

Prior to this users could opt to use eGPUs but this feature could only be enabled via Terminal, which not everyone might be familiar with. The fact that this is now a user-facing option does make it more accessible.

Google Maps For iOS Updated With ‘Match’ Restaurant Recommendations

One of the features Google rolled out to its Android version of Google Maps in June was the “match” feature. Basically this let users set their preferences when it comes to their favorite food and drinks, and Google Maps will know what kind of restaurants or bars that it should recommend to users around them.

For iOS users who would have loved to have that feature, you’ll be pleased to learn that after about a month or so, the feature is now available to you guys as well. According to Google, “Our new ‘match’ feature will help you find your one true love. And by love, we mean your next favorite cheeseburger. Tap on a food or drink spot to see how likely you are to enjoy it based on your unique preferences – so you can spend more time eating and less time searching for places to go.”

The feature was originally announced back in May during Google’s I/O event where it eventually made its way onto Android first (not surprising) before it found its way onto iOS. These recommendations aren’t static and will also get smarter over time the more you use it. This is because it will take into account not just your set preferences, but also places that you’ve been, places you’ve rated, places you’ve added to a list, and so on.

Fortnite On iOS Has Been Downloaded More Than 100 Million Times

We know that Fortnite has been enjoying a lot of success since its release on iOS. Last we heard, the game managed to make $100 million to date and is reported to be earning as much as $2 million a day. It also seems that the game is in no danger of slowing down, according to the latest figures by Apptopia (via VentureBeat).

According to the data that they have gathered, it seems that Fortnite on iOS has managed to cross the 100 million download mark, and that to date it has managed to make $160 million from in-app purchases from the iOS version of the game alone. So far we have heard that the game has managed to pull in a combined total of $1 billion, meaning that the iOS version accounts for a little over 10% of how much the game made.

This is especially impressive considering that the game was only released on iOS earlier this year. That being said, it seems that the game took a little longer than the competition to hit 100 million downloads. Based on Apptopia’s data, Super Mario Run is still the fastest game at 68 days to 100 million, followed by Pokemon GO which took 71 days. Fortnite took 138 days while PUBG took more than double at 344 days.

Fortnite has yet to be released on Android and we heard that it could be launched as a temporary exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. We’ve also heard the rumors that it could be launched by bypassing the Google Play Store.
