Gmail For Android Hints At Email Scheduling Feature

gmailGoogle’s Gmail service does a lot for users in terms of features, such as automated replies, forwarding, and more. However if there is one feature that we’re sure some users will be able to appreciate but yet Gmail doesn’t offer would come in the form of email scheduling. This is where you can set an email to be sent at a specific date and time.

The good news is that if you’re a Gmail user who would love to have email scheduling as a feature, you’ll be pleased to learn that in an APK teardown of the Android version of Gmail, the folks at Android Police have discovered that email scheduling could be a feature that is in the works.

The APK teardown has revealed some code strings which mentions “schedule send”, which presumably refers to email scheduling. It is unclear if this is a feature only for mobile, but we imagine that Google will want to make both its desktop and mobile apps share the same features for a consistent user experience.

No word on when the feature will be rolled out, but we imagine that it could come in handy. For example you could schedule emails to let people know that you’ve taken leave, or that you’re back from leave. You could also schedule emails to people in other parts of the world in different timezones.

Best Buy & Target Are Phasing Out Sales Of CDs

Nowadays with digital distribution of music and movies, the physical medium is no longer as prevalent as it once was. There are some who still prefer physical media formats like the CD, but that’s clearly not as big as a market as it once was, so much so that it isn’t surprising that retailers such as Best Buy and Target are reportedly phasing out CD sales.

Both retailers continue to sell CDs, but they aren’t putting as much emphasis as before. For example Best Buy is starting to take down CDs from its website, and the number of audio devices that support CD playback are just a handful. Target too has been cutting back where the retailer still sells new releases, but have scaled back on the number of CDs that they carry in its catalogue from 300 to 100.

According to Joshua Thomas, a company spokesman for Target, “Music is an important part of our DNA. We’re making changes that reflect changes in the industry and the shift in consumer behavior.” That being said, what’s interesting is that as the popularity of CDs are declining, an older physical format is being revived in the form of vinyl.

We’ve been hearing reports that some companies are starting up vinyl production again, such as in Australia where a new vinyl factory has been opened after 30 years.

Latest iOS 12 Beta Confirms HomePod’s Ability To Make Phone Calls

A report from earlier this month revealed that in a private beta testing of HomePod OS 12, it was discovered that Apple could be getting ready to launch a feature for the HomePod in which it would support making phone calls. For those wondering about it, you’ll be pleased to learn that the reports were true.

In a new report from 9to5Mac, it has been discovered that in the latest version of the beta for iOS 12, it has been revealed that phone calls will be a feature that will be making its way to the HOmePod. This will be a pretty major feature although it seems to be one that Apple should have included earlier.

As it stands the HomePod does support calls, although it acts more as a loudspeaker than anything. Users will need to initiate calls on their iPhones first, and because the HomePod can’t access the contacts on your phone, it also means that users won’t be able to use Siri on the HomePod to make a call to someone.

Presumably this update will change that, although since there is no public or developer beta preview for HomePod OS (yet), we’ll have to wait until the actual release of the update to get a better idea of how this will work.
