Facebook, like many companies, officially requires its users to be at least 13-years-old to use the platform. That hasn’t stopped many kids from using the service or parents from creating accounts for their children, though. Officially speaking, Facebook has a guidance for its reviewers to pause accounts belonging to minors, but it appears to have been only mildly enforced. That … Continue reading

Not since Baywatch in the days of Pamela Anderson has silicone proved so fascinating to so many, as Apple using it in the third-generation butterfly keyboard on the controversial 2018 MacBook Pro. The reworked keys are, Apple insists, all about reducing noise, but that hasn’t stopped plentiful speculation that in reality they’re intended to address the spate of stuck buttons … Continue reading
Cover glass manufacturer Corning announced its Gorilla Glass 6 yesterday which is going to make mobile devices that use it more durable. The company also makes cover glass for smartwatches and it has announced the Gorilla Glass DX and Gorilla Glass DX+ today. We can expect new smartwatches to ship with Corning’s latest products in the near future.
Since wearables are also mainly used outdoors as well, Corning’s focus with these products has been on readability. Both the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ feature an antireflective property which not only improves quality but also offers superior scratch resistance.
The Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ are an extension of the Gorilla Glass SR+. Other than the inherent toughness of Gorilla Glass, the new cover glass also promises to deliver outstanding readability with “best-in-class” scratch resistance.
Compared to standard glass, Corning says that the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ improve display readability by improving the front surface reflection by 75 percent. It also increases the display contrast ratio by 50 percent with the same display brightness level.
The levels of scratch resistance are the major point of differentiation between the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+. The former offers enhanced optics with the scratch resistance of Gorilla Glass whereas the latter couples the enhanced optics with superior scratch resistance approaching that of “alternative luxury cover materials.”

It was reported a few weeks ago that Nokia X6, the company’s first smartphone with a notched display, would be released in other markets soon. HMD Global, the company making Nokia-branded smartphones now, only released the handset in China initially. The report mentioned that the Nokia X6 would be launched globally as the Nokia 6.1 Plus and that’s precisely what has happened.
Hong Kong is the first market outside mainland China to get the Nokia X6 as the Nokia 6.1 Plus. The handset is almost similar to the one released in mainland China with the software being one major difference. The Nokia 6.1 Plus runs Android 8.1 Oreo and is part of the Android One program.
The Nokia X6 that’s being sold in mainland China is offered in multiple storage configurations but the Nokia 6.1 Plus is only available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. HMD Global is yet to confirm which other markets will receive this handset but it may not be long now before that comes clear.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus is now confirmed and will soon be available for purchase in Hong Kong for HKD 2,288 which is about $290. Sales of the new handset will begin July 24th. We may see the handset being launched in additional markets in the days to come.

Neptune is 2.9 billion miles away from Earth and the only better pictures that many of us remember seeing is when the Voyager 2 flew by the planet back in 1989.
There isn’t any spacecraft orbiting Neptune clearly but the latest images of the distant planet show incredible detail. It’s interesting to note that these images have been captured using special telescopes right here on Earth.
This images with incredible detail were made possible after an upgrade to the aptly named Very Large Telescope at the European Southern Observatory in Chile. The images are as detailed as the ones taken by the Hubble, which for those who are unaware is a big telescope that orbits the Earth and looks far out in space.
The Very Large Telescope has four telescopes with 8.2 meter mirrors placed in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. The images are the result of the new adaptive optics mode on its GALACSI unit which works in tandem with a spectrograph instrument called MUSE on one of the telescopes.
The result speaks for itself, allowing us to see Neptune clearly than we have ever been able to before. The instruments used in this endeavor will continue to be improved to further improve the resolution and clarity of the images. One can only imagine just how clearly we will be able to see such distant objects in space then.
